Ok ive been making more proggressive stuff since a few months ago and i have a hard time with having the bass line (or pad) to hit at the same as the bassdrum, its kinda frustrates me now.

I think it all comes down to compression and compression techniques.

For those who dont know what i mean, listen to above & beyond ft. andy moor - air for life and...well ...pritty much everyting proggy out there heh.

Sorry that i dont have a clip up, ill see if i can get one up within a few days.

This is the ultimate example yes, I would like to hear some answers to this question too

My guess: Sidechaining + Layering +EQ'ing + Compression * 9999

dunno about sidechaining, i cant really hear any side chaining.

when working with break beats the bd doesnt have that huge impact like in trance, thats where it gets hard.
The bd must have impact, so does the bass.

Edit: hmmm in fruity it must be possible to connect the paramtetric eq to the peak controller....hmmmmm...HMMM i say.

I hope these links works.

Hey. Yes, in Air For Life, there is some serious compression going on. Easiest way to do that would be to use a sidechain compressor running just about everything through the sidechain on the compressor and the kick through the main channel but, in your sequencer, this can also be done relatively easy by routing the kick and everything else into a single channel. Pair the sidechain with some super heavy compression in the channel and youll get that effect. Usually you want a fairly low threshold and a high gain and a low ratio. The attack and the release will be dependent on the amount of ducking you want. Note that by doing this, you destroy pretty much all the dynamics within the song. There are some alternatives but it sounds as if this way was used in Air For Life with some crafty switching on and off of the heavy compressor.

Cheers,
Zac
