Not strictly music related but I'am trying to unrar an archive of over 4gb but winrar cannot do it. I have changed the drive format from fat32 to ntfs.
I know there must be a program out there but cannot find it. Ideally freeware would be best but I don't mind paying up to about £20 for it.
Thnks in advance and nice to be back. |

how about you try..... uhm... WinRar ????? :p
It's the best extracting and compressing software out there anyway, and of course it's free :)

Thanks guys I've got the problem sorted. I've put the solution below incase any one else can find it useful.
hi mate,
this doesn't seem to be a winrar problem at least if you do use a version from within the last couple years (there once was a limit of 2^32bit in filezize but that is history) so in theory you should be able to manage files up to 8billion terrabyte...
winrar usually extracts files directly to the location you decide except when you try to extrackt things via drag&drop, then it uses plain, old fashioned ' first copy to temp dir and then move to final destination' - method which means, that you do have to provide at least the same space inside the tempdir as you will need at the location where you want to copy the file to ( and of course make sure your temp dir is on an ntfs drive as well, if you like to exceed 4gb file limitations ).
you're sure that you have definitely enough space at the target location?? try to extract the files with 'right-click - extract files...' then winrar doesn't make a detour to your temp folder |
