If something better comes out from pioneer then sell them and upgrade- or just be happy with what you have. |
most probably something is going to come out by january or february. think of it your self, last CD player that was released by pioneer was the CDJ-1000MK2 which was back in 2003. |

You are right- sort of.I dont think it was liking denons more- it was more a case of not liking cds generally- despite having been using them for playing out for donkeys years before cdjs were invented.
A long time ago I wasnt a huge fan. Still think there are faults with them- lack of pitch bend buttons being a major one.

@trancenutter..
1. the diference between the 100and 200 is very small. sure, the 200 plays mp3 but i burn my cd's as audio cd anyway. as the majority of people do.. the cdj100 has the same pitch increments as the 800. where the 200 has the same as the 1000 to my recolection..
2. when you talk about component prices you dont have a clue! the 1210 has probably twice the price worth of components within it. the motor alone will cost an arm and a leg. the arm, platter, cast top panel, expensive rubber bottom part..
the cdj1000 is twice the price and is made of plastic. it contains a computer and a cd drive worth not much more than a standard computer drive.. and i dont think all those flashing led's really bump up manufacturing too much either.
all i was saying is that i feel the cost of £325 for the budget pioneer model is mad! when you can get a 1210 for this price if you shop around.. |

well ... sort of yeah!
but id imagin there pretty complex machines!
plus its not the kinda think you can just walk into the local supermarket or argos and pick up! there pretty specialised peices of equipment, so naturally they are gonna be expensive!
i wouldnt say they are overpriced as theyr the best in their feild, plus im used to payin a lot of money for my dj equipment! but i do accept that maybe they could drop the price!
although if they did drop the price then maybe the 800 wouldnt sell!
so theyd have to drop the price of the 800!
then the 200 wouldnt sell!
so theyd have to drop the price of that!
then theyd be loosing a fortune!
then again maybe not :happy2:
a it, think il talk more about it when am sober :wtf: |

Are the prices high to offset there R&D costs? I dunno how true this is, but just an idea.
I guess they have to do this for the 1000 since it was one of the first CDJs but the 200/800 uses similar technology to the 1000 so I don't think there is that much R&D costs to offset. |

Cos if you think the 200 and the 100 are exactly tthe same, obviously you don't.
And how can you say whether a TT and a CDJ have different quality components? Especially since you have an imperial load of different functions on a CDJ that aren't on a TT (hmmmm, a freakin laser being the most obvious).
And then, lets compare prices.
$900 for a Technics 1200 mk2, up to $1200 for a m5g
$1599 for a Pioneer CDJ-1000 mk2
And you save WAY more than 600-700 bucks on vinyl. And thats not taking into account the 150 bucks EACH for some Ortofon needles.
So really, when you take into account the prices of vinyl TTs, the fact that these are somewhat more complex and have god knows how many more features, CDJ's aren't so overpriced as you claim. |
i think you are fairly stupid... happy christmas though :D |

Thats what I was going to say. It really depends on how custom everything they use is. But I'd suspect most of the custom stuff would be just software. But if for example they need custom integrated circuits or specialist low volume ones then the cost of thouse could easily be pretty mental.
I recon the most of the cost would be in the software development. And also every other company in the area needs to do the same for probebly lower volumes.
So if pionner is making it more custom than eveyone else while other companys can do the same for less at lower volume, you have to ask why. And I'd say the reason is that pionner came to the market first (correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure I am).
Everything it did wasn't really done before so it would have to start from scratch even desiding what would be good on a CDJ nevermind how to do it if you know what I mean.
And the competitors when they came into the market later would have had newer/more advance/cheaper integrated circuits to choose from. And so avoiding the need for fancy solutions.
But with all that said if any company will have recouped its R&D cost it would be pionner because its been on the market longest and sold the most units so I recon it is a case of the price of something is only what people will pay for it not what it cost |
