I don't care who I'm giving my money too. Its just money. I'm not going to boycott certain parties just because it is being thrown by a certain promoter. Satan himself could be throwing the party for all I care. I'm just happy to have these DJs/producer come to our little city.
Oh, and if you all do bring J00F back this year, please try your harderst to get Filo & Peri on that bill again. One of the best shows I've ever been to. |

Ask me anything folks as the political gloves are off now between us and Surface. I hate situations like this as we have tried to remain cool about certain things but when someone crosses the line like this and openly says they are trying to take our artist from us, that negates us being nice anymore. If you guys were still throwing shows at the Mark you would probably be bankrupt by now with all the tumbleweeds that were rolling through ninety percent of your shows there. Enjoy Fever. |
No one is trying to take anyone away from anybody, so instead of drawing conclusions about what you think you might know then why dont you just talk to one of us about it instead of posting this on a public forum. I love how some people see things one way and just assume they know everything.
Corey your remarks are uncalled for and you have known me long enough that I would like to think that if you really felt the way you do you would have at least contacted me instead of posting this on the board. But since you did let me just say that...
(1st and foremost)I am a DJ/Producer who happens to promote events, thats all!!
To have to put up with the that I do from people who assume they have it "all" figured out is beyond me. Apparently, some of you dont know who I am as a person and why I started Surface in the first place only to slave my ing life for the past year and a half bringing good shows to Atlanta only to hear this from people that I respect. To put up with the that I have is not what I signed up for and to be honest isnt worth the frustration...
I came into this to give something back to the town that supported me while I was establishing myself. Some of you talk about the politics, but thats not me in the least and unfortunatly its something that is relavant to this business. I dont think that any of you realize that this music saved my life which is why all of this means so much to me. I lived on the streets for 2 years and it was only by the grace of God that a special person who was in this scene in LA brought me into their home and helped me better my life. Its a THANK YOU everyone! Surface was set up as a way for me to personally contribute something positive to this scene.
So if thats not the way you see it, then Surface isnt what it was originally designed to be and maybe its time to step back. I miss working on music and with all this hostility and misconception its just not worth it. My only goal was to be able to touch someone with an event or an artist that people would take with them for a lifetime. Just like I got when I fell in love with the music back in 97'
Corey, you talked about tumbleweeds at the Mark but I didnt see it that way. We were the only promoters there with a bi-weekly event and we had alot of successful shows out of the 30+ that we had there. If I was in it for the money I would have been gone a long time ago. So for me, even if there was one person who captured something then it was a partial success. Maybe, I should have not had so many shows like you and focused on the bigger ones, but I cant change the past, only the future.
For now I am only looking at whats ahead so many thanks to all of you who have supported us. I hope that through these events you have carried something positive away from them. We are not going away, in fact everything has changed for the better. Corey was right that in 06' your going to see promoters collaborating. We are starting now and as long as you want Surface around, I will be here to make this happen. For those of you who really know me on here, know that my intentions have always been for Surface to only be a postive force in this town. If any of you see this any other way, I am sorry.
Best regards,
Jonathan Allyn

Ya me too. I didnt even say anything to create the drama...
Anyway, I have said what I am going to say. I have considered the Atl's TA's a friend which is why I put such a long response to Hagen and Corey entries into this thread. MY only hope was that this might put somethings into perspective for all of you. |

The pity is the ING SHADY tactics of the Surface team in their business practices.

Go ahead Jonathan, keep that game face on for the public. The people behind the scenes know the real deal. |

Ok can we cut this out in OUR forums?!? My comments were as a joke (and a dig at Mike B because I do not like him) and I hope that Jonathan took them accordingly. But this is OUR forum, meaning the people that belong to TA. We are a family here and we do not need our redheaded step-children coming in here and starting drama. I do not speak for the group but I hope I speak for some of us when I say we respect ALL of the promoters in Atlanta. As long as they keep giving us what we want, which is good shows and more memories with the rest of our TA family. (and a VIP section from time to time! *Hint Hint*) :) Sure some promoters have reputations and some of those reputations are based on rumors and untrue events. But lets leave the gossip and name calling for some other less friendly forums in Atlanta. As for this one, if you do not have something nice to say, take it elsewhere or send it in a PM.
Jonathan, I have met you at a number of events and I respect your story and your drive to change the music scene for the better. If you feel like you have a bad reputation, then take steps to change it in the New Year. If you feel like everything is A-OK, then keep things the way that they are. Only you can make that choice. We will still be here as long as the music is either way. The only way that you will ever loose that is, as a business owner, your business practices start loosing you the respect of artists and as such you can not bring us the music.
Hagen and Corey, Please take the higher ground and respect the nature of this forum. We know how you feel and some people might share your view. But that is to be discussed in person over a beer. Please let it drop from here.
No more drama from here on out or we are going to have to kick you out to Miami! :)
Happy New Year. |

You talk about not starting up drama ...do you not think this statement is not starting drama? ^^^^^^^^ Just a question.
I am far from a "red headed stepchild of TA". MaddHatter has put more time and money into promotiong dance music in this city than just about anybody...taking continual personal losses debuting artists like Marco V, John "00" Fleming, and Mauro Picotto....to try to progress the scene in Atlanta so that comment I find offensive.
As far as the drama with Surface...I have nothing more to say on this subject on this board. (Jonathan this is far from over though) The people behind the scenes know what is going on there and that is all that matters. |

i totally agree with you on less drama, but i'd be careful calling hagen and corey TA's "redheaded step-children" :wtf:
no offense meant to you at all, but theyve been around here a lot longer than you, and are two of the most respected members of the atlanta community, both on and off the forums.
i love surface and jonathan and what theyre trying to do for us as far as bringing names (and the new club too!! :D) , but i think a lot of sympathies here will always lie with the madhatter crew :thepirate
but anywayyyy, +a million on the end of the drama!! no one can complain with a couple of promoters just doing their best to bring names to our city, so let's just leave it at that :happy2: |

| Ok I did not mean any offence by the "redheaded step-children" comment. Just like I did not mean anything by the Chad comment. Looks like I just need to keep my mouth shut. I mean it in the way that stepchildren come in during the holidays and start drama. (My dad likes us better because he is MY dad not yours!) Ok now I am offending stepchildren everywhere. I will go now but just know that I have respect for Hagen and Corey just as much as I have respect for any promoter. |
