Orbital, if you buy WAV files, you can download them instantly. You don't have to wait to get it mailed. ;) But they do cost $1 more.

Pants on fire!

Beatport:

You can download wav for an additional $1.00 per track.
320 KB/s is the standard option and should be used most often unless you want the best fidelity for your favorite tracks.

Other than that:

128 KB/s is completely unaccepatable for use in DJing. The effects and busier elements are quite bad. Sure you can hear the track but the delays and other elements are surely lost and distorted.

FYI wav=1411 KB/s
320 KB/s is only a fraction of that D/A. However 320 KB/s will suffice for DJing. 192 KB/s can be used, however in busier tracks with alot of the frequency spectrum and dynamic headroom used you will surely hear a difference compared to the 320 KB/s file.

128 KB/s is only a little more than twice the D/A of a land-line telephone carrier. Again, you would be foolish to use 128 KB/s files for DJing on a club system or for recording.

Take my word for it use 320 or wav as much as possible to aviod a ty sounding set. 192 can be used for simpler tracks and more cautiously. Also remember this: If you use a low quality file for recording a set, and if you use that file for an audio stream at 192 or for internet distribution at 192, you are seriously further degrading the quality of the set EXPONENTIALLY. Don't use iTunes (128) for getting music for DJing. If there is a song you really need and it is only available on iTunes, contact the label directly to obtain a wav or 320. I do this all of the time with a 100% success rate. Most times I do not even pay for the song from a label if it is not available in a quality format.

Which brings up the obvious question: Are you a DJ buying tracks to play in a club, psychochick?
NiteMer
I always download 320 versions. I've played them on many different systems, from small to large and never had a problem with sound quality. If you're truly worried about sound quality, vinyl is the only way to go, but most people, myself included, can't tell the difference. ;)

I can tell the difference between 320 and 192 easily on good speakers or with good headphones.

But like Boomer said, depends on the source...I've heard 192 tracks that sound almost as good as 320...

thx!

Just get the 320 and you'll be fine.

w3rd, a lot of people encode 128, or a variable 96 into 192 or even into 320....it sounds the same but says it has a higher rate :wtf:

FuzzyChicken
Just curious, What if you record a set from tracks that are in 192 and then then process your overall set as 192 bitrate. Will there be a loss?
