Honestly, why would anyone be proud of, or even admit to having $5 in their bank account? I realize that money isn't everything, but people who are public about the fact that they have *no* assets must have some seriously screwed-up values.
Come to think of it, those people are usually the liberals and socialists, so I guess it makes sense. | damn.
I would admit if I had 5$ in my account.....lol |

Not even remotely ghetto. If a couple hundred dollars' worth of gift-giving sends you to the poor house then you definitely need some lessons in saving. |
Yes. Savings is KEY. Although I don't have much LEFT in my savings account...I do PLAN for this season. So I'm not OUT anything. Thank goodness. I AM glad we have 3 pays this month, however.

That's exactly what the problem is - people making fun out of things that they should be taking seriously (such as their financial futures). |

Your financial future is important.....heck.....I make sure I have enough money aside that I could live for three months without a job and still pay all my expenses....and there are a lot of them.
But come on....most of the people here are in university and having fun. University is not the time to be thinking about your future financial situation......live it up and have fun.
Besides, most of you are going to be broke for the first 10 years after university anyways :D
Come On DigiNut.....don't be a scrooge |

Yes, and the reason most people are going to be broke for 10 years after is because they go so ridiculously into debt that it takes them 10 years to pay everything off.
Contrary to popular belief, being a student doesn't mean you can do anything you want with your life and not have to deal with the consequences later on - I can't count on both hands the number of people who can't afford *important* things because they have no money and they've got bad credit.
Since university is most people's first time away from home, it's also the critical time to be developing good spending habits. I'm not saying that everybody should be getting part time jobs and putting the money away in RRSPs and bonds and mutual funds - just that they should be learning to budget and keep an eye on what they're spending, not racking up $10,000 worth of debt at 18% interest (in addition to their student loan, which they apparently think they'll never have to pay off).
It's that invincible "care-free" attitude that I always hated when I was in university and still hate now. I'm not a worrier - you'd know that if you knew me - but I'm not an idiot either. |

honestly, why would you even post in this thread then?
this isn't you and it doesn't apply to you as you have clearly stated. So what, let them have fun, let them say they have 5$ in there bank account.. what does it really matter to you?
I am sure you just made people feel a whole lot better by coming in here and criticizing them and for what? was it really that necessary??
 |
