:stongue:
Happens to everyone :)
Anyway- nem as always is spot on the money.
Ive had managers before moan that noone is dancing. They often forget its a) 9pm and no one has had many drinks.b) there arent a great number of people in the place yet
c)they havent looked on the sides where people ARE foot tapping/dancing...just not on the dance floor
I play in these commercial clubs- some nuggets of advice for you:
-you cant please everyone
-no matter what you play- SOMEONE will moan about it.
-someone will call you /wanker/crap when you wont play their track
-Someone will come up every 5 minutes asking for the same track until you play it |

yea i noticed alot of foot tappin, head nodding etc so all the signs were there. eveng ot a few compliments on my mixin from a few of the blokes towards the end of the night. another thing i learned from the night was no matter how painfully gorgeous a girl is and no matter how flirty she is with you DO NOT i repeat DO NOT let her in the booth with you. the first thing they do is go "OH CAN I SCRATCH!?" and before you have a chance to open your mouth in disapproval shes rubbing the live record like its her *ahem* :haha: |
the one time i had this request from a girl and she was just TOO painfully omfg WFIUGIUGVUJY~! hot to ignore, i cued a channel, layed my cans on her for a few seconds, and let her try and scratch (on the cued deck, of course). she felt all important n since i had put my headphones on her. hehe. let's just say it worked out welll :toothless |

sometimes your path as an opener is going to be very different in different situations. I opened for Ashtrax two weeks ago from 10-12, and by 11:15 the place was starting to fill up but no one was really responding to the minimal stuff I was playing.
My gf says, "oh Zack, play that Til There Was You Song." I randomly put on the Creamer and K remix of Til There Was You, a vocal track and all of a sudden the girls started dancing and coming up to the booth asking me what the name of it was. I started going through all my records pulling out all vocals and by 12 people were really into it. If someone had told me before my set i would have played 30 minutes of vocals I would have laughed, but it turned great. |

Chicks love the vocal tracks man... The countless time a chick at my office has asked me to mix her a cd of vocals.. or spin at her house parties ("and if you do, will you play vocal tracks") .. hahaha... and the chicks were lovin' the night I played out here in town a while back.. the trick is to drop 1 or 2 every once in awhile.. works for KEEPING them on the dance floor, yet allows you to play non vocal stuff.. (most of the time..;) ) |

The things I've experienced at clubs when it comes to people dancing is this:
Warm up with vocal tracks. Commercial ones (Hard dance mania has become a fav among many people out there.)
After you have got the people to dance then start to play real trance ;)
And I like to finish off with some soft hardstyle (if I can tell the crowd is up to it.)
Of cours it depends on the crowd what you should play to get them on their feet... This is just my opinion |

| Congrats to your gig mate! Dancefloors, foot tapping and head banging put aside, what did the club owner/promoter think? Did you get any feedback from him (or her)? It doesn't matter how much cred/ you take from the crowd at any given night - at the end, what it all comes down to is if the club owner was satisfied or not. Of course, most of the times the crowd being happy is closely related to the owner being happy - but not always. If you actually had played those R&B tracks you'd surely piss the owner off, since he wanted you to play house, even if that had got the feets on the crowd moving. |

well the promoter already knows me. a while back i gave him a couple of mixed CDs i had done and he wouldnt believe it was me coz the mixing was so good. he had me come into the same club and play a 90 minute warmup to see if i could mix etc. after that he signed me up to his agency. "proper" gigs are hard to come by in Belfast as 95% of the clubs are r'n'b so it took me 4 months before i got the boxing nite gig. the owners honestly havnt a clue about mixing or DJing at all so as long as the crowd was happy - he's happy.
the NYE gig was fantastic. the whole night the crowd were loving it but there was at least 4 occasions were i dropped in the next choon and you woulda thought id scored in the world cup final :wtf:
awesome feeling. sex is over-rated! |

And that's truly what it's all about.
When I dropped passive resistance on New Years eve or day I saw people running from the bar and balcony just to get to the dance floor and all the pill monsters where nodding their heads in agreement to each other and then gurning something to me, it was fecking wicked.
When you get people just really going for it, it makes you feel like a god and in that instance alone you will know that you are doing what you were meant to be doing. Something that even after 20 years gives me goose bumps.
Cheers
