I can create 4 bars of spine-tingeling goodness :gsmile: ....
But I can never seem to turn that into a whole track. :whip: My arrangement skills definately need a little work! |

| Yeah I used to be like that jojimbo. I think you really just need some music theory as a base. That's my main problem currently. I can't create good pad chord progressions because I don't really know chords and what not. So I've been reading and it's helping me progress tremendously. |

Yeah i'm in that phase too, all i do is mess around with make sounds with my synths and then play some tunes on my midi controller, every time I get to making a song i usually don't make it past the percussion.

I'd say I'm at the level where I have a definite sound, and I can certainly hear the flaws in my own music.
I wouldn't call myself pro, though, because I'm not paid.
I could totally own you all. |

Alot of pro artist only have good production: the sound is clear, poweful, perfect. The musical aspect however is usually lacking and unoriginal.......the thing is, you can go far with good production skills and medium musical creativity.
As for me.....my production skills are lacking, i dont get exactly the sound I want, but I guess im okay in the musical department, but I could use improvement |

Some don't even have great production. Some pros have crappy synth programming and sample selection, and I have to wonder how they got to the pro level. |

That one seems the most important to me.. At least that's what's made me stick with producing for hours to get it right... |

| haha that sounds like me. Sometimes I'll sit here just waiting around to figure out how I can get that exact sound I'm looking for. I'll try to create my own patch and all that stuff and finally when I finish I think it sounds alright. Then I try putting it in the mix and it doesn't fit well. I end up just saving the patch and waiting to use it until a next time when in fact there really is never a "next" time for me. heh oh well I'll figure it out sometime. |

Yeah,..I was almost giving up producing after a year.
my main issue was the sound itself,...sounded too static, boring and not well mastered overall.
especially the mastering-issue was pissing me off,..no matter what i did there was always something ed up. nowadays my former weakness is my biggest strength and i can focus on producing itself. which is always a "problem" until you make the track u wanted it to be. |
