Headphones: Advice Needed

The other day my mate broke my Stanton 3000's at a gig and I'm wondering what new pair of headphones to get. As I live in Ireland and I have a gig on New Years Eve, my choice is limited to the overpriced Irish market.

I have a choice between:

Stanton DJ Pro 3000 for 139euro.
Sony MDRV700 for 149euro.
Pioneer SEDJ 5000 for 149euro.

Thats basically what I can afford cos the Sennheiser HD25's and Pioneer HDJ 1000's are both 200euro. I had my Stantons for just over a year and didn't have any problems till the other day. The plastic snapped where you adjust them to fit the size of your head. It seems to be a common problem with the Stanton after reading numerous reviews about them but in saying that, the reviews on the Sony ones were even worse! Haven't heard much bout the Pioneer 5000's so I'm totally confused as to what ones to buy.

If anyone could help advice me as to which pair to buy it would be greatly appreciated.

Tanx a lot, Paul.

Ouch buddy..

I know what you're talking about though. Was in Tower Records there the other day (off grafton st.) And they hada set of Sennheiser 25SP's.. (not the 25's, as the SP's aren't as good) And they cost €150!!!)

D'you not have a mate who might be able to lend you a set of his cans? It'd be a pity to pay a good 60 euro more then what you should be paying..

I'll have a quick search online to see what some shops are selling.. (and more importantly what price they're selling at)..

By the way, which club you playing at?

alligator
sedj 5000

why? i have them (but no that's not why)...and i got them becuase they are build to last. unless of coruse you're simply an idiot and bend them in any way shape or form.

i've dropped them, hit them and they haven't broke yet. sound is good, the bass sounds great in them. from those three i would recommed then sedj, you'll like them.

hope this helped

Get your MATE to buy you new cans...he broke them!!!

I woud get the sedj 5000 ( Never used them but never seen a complaint on the ta fourms) I have the Tecs rpdh 1200 and would recomend them if they fit your price range. The Sennheiser HD200 are also good for the price.

how much do the Technics DJ1210 cost in your area? they shouldn't be much more expensive...
and they are definetely the best of the line

The Techs are good headphones and definately will do the job. But if you are paying that sort of money you might as well throw in an extra £20 and get the Sennheiser 25's.

At the moment I have two sets of headphones with me when I play out, I have a set of Technics DH1200 which I was given by a local record shop to help promote them and as back up I have Sennheiser 25.
The Tech DH1200's are way over priced and should definately not cost more than £100. They are just simply not worth the money.

In answer to the original question.
I would probably go with the Sony 700s. I used them for many years and they are supposed to have fixed the issue with the snapping swivel joints too (It remains to be seen by myself). They are good headphones if you take care of them regardless of what other people may say. Something to remember about forums is that a lot of people like to rant about something they know nothing about and compare it to something else they know nothing about.

The Stantons are ok although I don't have too much experience with them.

Don't know the Pioneer SEDJ5000, but do know that the HDJ1000 are good.

These are just my opinions and ultimately you will have to make up your own mind so it might be worth testing them if you can.

Cheers

I'm just playing locally (Baldoyle) on New Years. The local pub/disco bar ran 3 dance nights this week cos me and 2 other djs , Bar Elmes & Rob Hickey(Irish DMC champ) live in Baldoyle so its cool to just play for all our mates.

I ended up just buying the Stantons again. An impulse decision today in town! it, they were grand for me before so hopefully they serve me well. My poxy cd burner is after breaking now, up all night trying to fix the thing!

Anyway, tanx for all the replies. Happy new year ;)

don't worry dude, not saying they are bad headphones but Technics have been a little naughty on this one with the price.
There are cheaper phones out there that out perform them or are equal to them, that's what I'm saying.
I still use my Senns for production and stuff when it's too late and Mrs. Nem is sleeping, and if I then want to spin a few tracks I will use my Technics and the difference in response is considerable.

heh...looks like Sehn HD25 are the best on the planet. what about the RP-DJ1210 like Marco V has (and a bunch of other djs) they look very durable, stylish + cheaper than DH1200. i'd get myself HD25 but they cost twice as much (around 220$) which i cant afford right now.. :(
there's one big question about DJ1210: can they be used "one can from the right shoulder" i mean having them hang on the heck and squeezing one can between any shoulder and head? anybody?
cheers :)
