EFX-500 vs. Kaoss Pad 2

I'm sorry if this has been discussed before - although couldn't find a thread where the differences/(dis)advantages between these two fx processors were discussed.

I've been wanting to buy an EFX-500 for a long time now - and now that I got some money for x-mas and my birthday (which by the way occurs at the same day, I do more or less afford an fx-processor).

As I just said - I've been planing to buy an EFX-500, but lately I've been hearing a lots of good things about the Kaoss 2 pad as well - so. For those of you guys who do have knowledge about these two, or any of them, please fire away your opinions on why I should by the one or the other, in terms of number of effects and functions (that are more or less useful), sound quality, tenability (how much beating can the touch screen on the Kaoss Pad take etc), space for freedom and creativity and so on....Everything there is to be known about these two...

And maybe, just maybe, I can figure out which processor best suits my needs. Thanks for your help!

Okay - I've done a bit of futher research and thus far come up with the following:

The EFX-500 has these 10 effects:
Delay
Echo
Trans
Flanger
Pan
Jet
Wah
Ring
Zip
Fuzz

Kaoss Pad 2 has 12 effects:
Pitch Shift
Distortion
Filter
Wah
Tremolo
Flanger
Delay
Reverb
Pan
Gate
Phaser
Ring Modulator
+ Sample/Play (12 seconds), which supports following: Forward and Reverse play, Time Stretch and Loop Time Modulation.

Sampling is of course a huge upside. With the EFX-500 you can only sample up to four beats using the echo effect.

The EFX-500 on the other side has a 3 band EQ/Isolator. This although isn't a huge issue I guess since there are EQ's on the mixer.

Have I forgotten something? Right now I'm really into bying a Kaoss :) But of course, I'd still like to hear what some of you guys actually have to say about these two units.

Edit: I just came across this video. It does indeed look awesome.

I think the general consensus has been that it's an "Apples & Oranges" kind of comparison in that the way you use each is completely different. I guess my recommendation would be to try to stop by a guitar center or someplace of the like and try each out, then decide which one you feel more comfortable manipulating...

On a personal note, I just got my EFX a week ago and I love it...

Good luck...

i haven't used either of these effects units, but that said, i remember reading on this forum that it can be hard to recreate the same effect on the kp2(hand movement is a parameter). Hopefully someone who has one will let you know for sure though.

I just ordered a Kp2. Will be here next week (hopefully). I also didn't know which one to go for. Both have such good reviews. If these are like the other things in this game than the efx500 is better since it costs more

I looks like a ton of fun though.

i got my KP2 for christmas & i love it!

the sampler isnt that good on it, and the bmp calculator isnt too good, kinda off beat every now and then, but all the other effects ar hot!

and the x/y interface is in excellent for controllin the efx! not to mention you can record a sequence on the pad then hold it & it will repeat exactly what you done!

but as already stated, its like comparing apples & oranges!

What do you mean? There is a tap function, just as on the EFX-500. I'm not looking for an automatic BPM-counter, what I'm wonderig is if the unit is able to hold a certain tempo that you have tapped in? Because if that is slipping, then it's a really huge issue, especially when you're using delay and echo effects. If it can't hold the tempo correctly those effects will sound like garbage.

yeah theres a tap function! so you can correct it if it goes off, but its still a bit of a pain havin to correct!

you dont notice it delay or echo, but it is an issue if you will be usin the pre loaded samples, and it can up the samples that you record! but the delay and echo's are fine!

usually if your playin one of the samples then it will come off beat, you can correct it usin the tap, but its never gonna be perfect usin it ... but as i said its only an issue with the samples not any of the effects
