New mixer: opinions wanted

Hi,
I recently sold my Allen & Heath Xone 62 to free up a little cash, plus, my interest in spinning had taken a back seat. However, with the new year, has come a resolution to get back with it, hence, I'm in need of a new mixer.
I felt that, while the Xone 62 was like a dream, it was above and beyond what I needed at the time.
My first thoughts were to go with the Pioneer DJM-500, but, I could really do with a new pair of headphones too, so I'm looking a little further down the scale.
I've found the Ecler NUO-3, for £380, a price which includes a pair of Sony MDRV-700 headphones, that, as far as I'm aware, go for around £90.
Bearing in mind that price range, are there any other mixers I should be looking at?
Many thanks,
R. |

Im new to spinning myself but after spending the last 6 months researching about it and pretty much the more you pay the better you get.
but what I got my self
VMC-004 mixer 4 channels (no effects or fancy things but who uses it?)
Senn HD280Pro headphones
Technics TT who would't
But more to the point DONT get them sony 700 headphones, read the headphone post, I'll just quote what someone said.
You have 2 choices -
SONY MDR-7506 / V6
Senn HD280Pro
Everything else is a waste of money.
But I hear the Technics ones are pretty good as well.
But dont listen to me read up as much as you can. |

The HD-25's are also great headphones!
In terms of mixers ive read good things about the nuos, i was thinking of getting a nuo 3 or 4 to replace my dxm06, i expect a full review if you get one :) |

That post about headphones is just bullocks. There are loads of other ones that will do just fine and are just as good as a Sony MDR-V700.
Stanton DJ Pro 2000 or 3000

Pioneer HD-1000

Technics RP-DJ1210

Technics RP-DH1200

They all cost less than 200 euros. I have the Stanton DJ Pro 2000s myself and it's a damn good pair of headphones in my opinion.. |

| Yea with headphones I guess the best way is just to try them on and crank the volume, but isolation from the noise outside is also important. |

stay away from:
Sony MDR V700s
Pioneer HDJ-1000s
Technics RP-DH1200s
The Sony's break. the crack at the joints a lot. sound is not the best, IMO. the Sony MDR 7506s own them by far, are cheaper, and are a LOT more resistant. may not look pretty to some, but ah well.
the Pioneers have a very nice sound, comfy too, but, some have a design flaw that may cause one side to die out. just ask Freak on this board, he went through 6 pairs and he knows how to take care of 'em. ended up going for 7506s.
those Technics BREAK. PERIOD. THEY BREAK. AT THE JOINTS. BREAK. BREAK BREAK BREAK. and in little time. both my friends who bought 'em had em break in no time. one on the first night of use, the other within the first month. the RPDJs are a lot more solid choice.
i recommend Sony MDR7506. great price, great phones. Sennheisers (HD280Pro and HD25) are BOTH excellent. bit pricier though.
Ecler mixers are top notch, as far as i've heard from everyone. |

| I've heard some stories about V700's breaking, but never any about the Pioneers or the Techs... Are the constructors at Pioneer/sony/technics really THAT bad at making headphones? The Stanton I have has cost me 80 euros and not a mark on it (used it intensively for about 4-5 months).. How can that be? |

Your Stanton ones look more soild then them, ive never heard bad things about technics ones either but the best way is to get them in your hands and have a look, ive looked at the Pioneer HD-1000 before at a shop and id have to say they look pretty bad to me the plastic looks like it would snap or come apart.
(not trying to start a flame headphone post for people that own them) |

I think another important question is: Are you going to use it to play out or just as a bedroom DJ?
If you are playing out much i would prefer headphones that are built well to the nice-sounding-and-looking ones. If you have a lot of cash to spend and don't mind the looks I'd go for the Sennheiser HD-25. I've heard you can kick them around for a while without leaving a mark :wtf: |

It all depends how u treat ur equipment mate, if u treat it really well then you'll have no problems with the sonys, i've been using mine heaps for almost a year and i have no problems with them at all!
I know a lot of DJ's tend to treat their gear like though, so really if u do, then get senn HD25's, apparently they can take an absolute beating, i've never used them but a lot of people talk them up.
Mixer: I've heard nothing but great reviews about the whole Nuo range, and would probably go for one of their models :) |

Bah!
Headphones again.
Apparently Sony have fixed the issue with their swivel joing, then if that's the case then they have made a good pair of headphones.
I used the Sony 700s for years before I switched to the Sennheiser SD25.
These days I use the Technics DH-1200 although to be honest I don't think they are worth the money the sound is ok but not fantastic. I definately think the best are the Senns HD25 (not the SPs).
Just be prepared for the Senns if you get them as they will give a flatter response a bit more like a studion monitor so if you want booming phones then go with another make.
Cheers

My intention wasn't to spark a debate regarding headphones, I assure you. Either way, I've taken all the headphone comments on board, as well as the few relating to the choice of mixer. ;)
I've asked the company in question if they can supply the NUO-3 mixer with a differing pair of headphones, as mentioned. I'll see what they come back with, and take it from there.
Thank you for your replies, much appreciated.
