I think $1500 is a little out of the "grams" range.

Clutches are a bitch. They can go bad overnight, let alone the 7k kms you drove. SOme of my brothers friends took his car one night, and gave it back 2 hours later with a burnt clutch. It had to be replaced. So its a hit or miss thing here. Either the previous owner had something to do with it, or it was your driving. Sadly, you will never be able to find out. I would just get it replaced anyway. You will be wasting your time (not having a car) arguing back and forth with the dealer.

Having worked at a dealership, alot of stuff goes on behind the scenes that the potential buyer of a used car does not see. Theres alot of cover ups sometimes on certain things, be warned. As with most car places, and people who fix cars, you have to look around to find a decent place, and alot of places are dicks.

As everyone said, your most likely screwed. Replace it and find another dealer.

Aye. They go on about superior German engineering but they are built in Mexico.

engineering != building

As for the dealer's inspection, that's like them telling you the brakes are ok, and you going back to them to bitch that the pads have worn out.

Like Vertigo said, wear items aren't included in a warranty.

Besides, who in the world lets the salesman inspect the car you're going to buy?? Of course they're going to tell you it's alright. Get your own mechanic to do it.

everything wears. your telling me that if an engine blows up cause of excessive wear at 50 000 km it isn't covered under warranty. breaks are and should be covered up to at least 10 - 25000 km.

a clutch should last well over 100 000km. i blew my clutch on my mazda pickup after 350 000 km and i beat the living out of this truck.

THE DEALER IS TRYING TO SCREW YOU. YOU HAVE A WARRANTY. THE CLUTCH SHOULD AND IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.!!!!

clutch disc. brake pads. hoses. belts. tires. exhaust pipes.

none are covered.

other clutch parts, besides the disc, including the housing and slave cylinder, should be covered under warranty.
dj_souvlaki
so should the cltuch. it is a heavy duty part that should be designed to last long.

thats like saying your clutch packs in your rear diff on a limited slip diff aren't covered under warranty. or the clutch packs in automatic transmissions.

Tell that to Nissan Canada's warranty department. You'll get a friendly surprise!

Also, the most fun I've had with a clutch is a friend's 3000GT VR4 back in highschool. His dad brought it over from New York for him, and the clutch was almost toast. He told us to go finish it off one afternoon.

7200rpm launches are awesome in a 3800lb AWD car with 320bhp and some 300lb-ft torque. Should've seen the smoke. And the smell, oh, the smell...

all exhaust systems are also covered your extended enviromental warranty(ie cats, mufflers, and exhaust pipes). bet you didn't know that one.

^^^ you can say what SHOULD be covered...but if it's NOT covered, your *opinion* doesn't matter, does it?

Aaaaaand from friends' experience with Nissan, they'll tell you politely to off :)

Clutches are wear items, like brakes and windshield wipers. You're ed.

I'm not saying he'll actually GET anywhere with them...but that's about his only chance. It's not unheard of, particularly for people driving a non-entry level car, to get *some* satisfaction from customer service.

Having said that...yep, good luck to him. I'd be pissed too, but 1. buying used and 2. buying an expensive car = potential for expensive (an unexpected) repairs.

btw...was '03 the first model year? just asking ;)
