perhaps its simply your taste in music my friend.
i just moved here from connecticut - the only shows that nyc and boston had were big names - all trancy dancy...
chicago's taste and diversity in music is definately what's keeping me alive - PURE has definately done an awesome job and the locals..
that's another story.
i'm just upset i couldn't make it to all the parties in fall of '05.

Agreed. When kids from 5 hours away are fighting to decide what they can afford to get down to Chicago to see, and what they're going to have to miss, that's a great sign...

HA! THAT WAS ME! [I'm sure others as well:)]. If I wasn't stuck @ school out here in Ames, IA, I would have gone to a LOT more shows. In a span of, what 4 or 5 weeks?, there was around 6 shows I wanted to see.
I often found it more frustrating having to decide which shows to go or not to go, rather than there not being any decisions at all [did that make sense? it sounded right in my head...] |

| Sound-bar is the only one having anything worthy at this time, but my financial situation as well as school/play have ruined my chances to come out for anything until... mid-feb. |

I've got two words for you.....
James Zabiela
February in Chicago....I mean, I'll consider it a great year right then. All you need other than that is cowbell. I'm sure more labels or whatever will form up soon. You live in a nice city. Let's all just relax and enjoy the robophobia.
Thats all:. |

so how about Pure uses the most-wasteful place in Chicago to host a festival? yup, you guessed it right, Millennium Park, or even Grant Park where the Taste of Chicago is held annually....
Why can't there be a dance festival if there's hicks coming to the city to see Lennard Skinnard? who ever that old guy's is... (europeans are oblivious to the oldies of the US, bc simply put: we are in 2006)
but... why not? ;) |

And who would fill that park?
And who would be headlining?
And for how many days would it be?
I'd love to see Chicago establish an annual festival like the Love Parade and WMC but to put it bluntly - the local support just isn't there.
This isn't the Field of Dreams - if you build it, chances are no one will come. |

| Pure is an good promoter. The plus is that they have both Sound Bar on fridays and Vision on saturdays. So they have more options in terms of dates to book djs. I personally don't like Sound bar; Vision is cool.; but to have something to do both nights is nice. Also they have been trying to keep bringing the big names(as Godskitchen and Spundae used to do) and at the same time bring different styles of music. Now you see more techno than with Godskitchen for example(look at feb schedule for Vision). Also I think they are doing a better job at giving the local talent a spot on frid and sat nights. So in general I think they are doing a good job. Can't forget that this is a money driven bussiness. So if you don't make money then no club for tonight. So the problem is that there not enough audience to have more trance/techno in Chicago or better said big club nights. For example my friend lived in Munich for a year. She told me that every weekend there were at least 4-5 clubs packed playing techno/trance. It's sad but it's really about money. |

"Seriously, I've seen people posting this before."
maybe because there IS a LOT of people out there that feel chicago scene became extreemly bogus.
this might be a very bold statement to some, but there is a lot of us out there who don't care about (what some label) 'new talent'. plenty of us irked to the maximum because of the 'ty parties situation'... PURE might of been hard at work for over a 100 years, but bottom line is PURE is not delivering! ...and I'm not talking about the slow month of january...I'm talking about most of the 2005 including the tiest NYE chicago has ever witnessed (had they brought in 'hoodini & blowfish' that would of at least been something)!
they do make some cool things happen... unfortunatelly only on a rare occasion...with 0 continuity..
as a person living in a metropolitan city of 10+ mil, I don't want good parties that kids from Rockford wanna come see, I want frkn SUBERB parties that kids from Spain wanna come see. I know I'm not alone on this.
If you ask me about any ideas ... just look at 03 and 04 ... two consecutive years of world class quality parties...absolutely great fkn times!!
the way I see it... PURE might wanna give spundae a call and ask them how it's done
PS: ditch Sound-Bar... that place is so full of itself (e) it's not even funny... I like to go to soundbar when I urge to be insulted by the service over and over....which is never again |
