| I have 2 computers. A laptop and a desktop. I also connect a 250GB Western Digital external hard drive to it full of my programs, pictures etc. I recently reformated my desktop and I started installing programs to it via the external hard drive. I went out for a few hours and I tried to open my external hard drive folders but when I clicked on the drive, it said that the directory or drive is corrupt and unreadable. I really need these files but I don't know what to do... The very last thing I did was install Alcohol 120% from my external to the desktop and I resatrted the computer then I left the house. When I came back, it gave me these problems. Anyone have any idea on what I can do to save them or get the files back?? I had about 70+ gigs of my trance music, mixes and some productions. I really need to get them back but I have no idea where to start or what to do. |

Your Options aint looking good, if the hard drive is corrupt then even software recovery tools might not work as if the parition tabke structure is damaged then where the data is will be un recognisable to the software your going to buy and use.
If you had $4000 spare you could get a program called EnCase its what the FBI, NSA, CIA, MI5 most police and army dept's use and it can rebuild corrupted hard drives. Anyways
whats you can try is this.
Plug in the 250Gb hard drive and download partition magic 8 or 9 i think 9 is out now, if windows does not recognises it and partition magic does not pick it up then i would get a refund most HDD have long life warrenty, im sure you can re download all your music again but personal documents might be gone forever depending how corrupt the hard drive is, is it a FAT OR NTFS Drive ? IDE OR ATA ? OR USB ? |

i have a similar problem right now with an 80 gig hdd. patience is a virtue. dont do ANYTHING to the drive. leave it as it is. i just downloaded a program that recovers lost data/files. i'll let u know the details after i run it in a few mins.... wish me luck.

*EDIT*
GetDataBack was the program I used. Didn't work. Recovered nothing. Data gone bye-bye.... I think I'll call it good and just back up my stuff more often from now on... |
