Mainly because for me its part of my daily life, and i just get on with it.
The only thing the specialist recommended for mewas pour luke warm olive oil into my canals and let it soak in, and to then get them syringed quarterly a year. Works a treat :)

Its just ive had my ears fiddled with and had all sorts done which was supposed to be good for them and its made them nothing but worse. Total nightmare thats why i dont care anymore. Mad but true.

Very good job on getting the ear protection, they should be mandatory for any serious DJ. I'm actually in the process of getting some myself after a bad experience from a club where my ears rang for weeks. Scared the living daylights out of me, I thought my hearing was fcuked for life. I've since then taken it as a healthy warning that I should protect my ears before it's too late.

Now to the guy who said protecting your ears is basically a waste of money/time. Try to imagine for a minute that your ears are ringing and will never stop. It's called tinnitus and millions of people suffer from it. It really sucks because you will never be able to hear silence ever again once you develop it. DJs are exposed to loud noise environments and are at high risk for permanent ear damage. So please don't be so naive with your smart ass comments when a guy is just trying to take care of his hearing.

dude you dont want to spend 120 euro to protect yourself? you only spend money on such a thing once.

im sorry if you are cool with being deaf, but i personally hate it when i dont hear people clearly. plus, it feels really bad to talk to someone who doesnt hear well. i was speaking to a lady who was 40s and she asked me to repeat myself everytime i asked a question. i didnt get mad about it, but i just noticed thats how i would be without ear protection and it sucks. if you can prevent something from happening to you, why not invest a little money into it? that is not bad investment. that is a great investment. once you mess up your hearing, 100000 euro wont get you back to hearing like before.

For a second i thought i was the only one who cared for my hearing there lol..

They were actually 250 euro :) But who's counting. Had they been more expensive i would have just waited a little longer till i took Dj'ing to another level (playing out regularly etc)

Anywho...

Ive never had ringing for days, probably because my ears are already so far gone. So i cant comment on having tinnitus, I dont have trouble hearing ppl face to face nor do i need hearing aids. As ive said before even if i wanted i couldnt protect my ears, i didnt dis you for doing so. All i said was personally for me its a waste of time, even if i wanted to i cant put anything inside my ears otherwise then i will have permanent ear damage as my canals just swell up and inflame.

Its good that you are protecting yours, but as for comments calling me smart ass, put yourself in my shoes when you have bad ears and theres not a ing thing you can do about, or anything you can do to protect them. Im just jealous that you can protect your ears, where as i cant

that was the comment which made me have a slight go at you. But i do feel for you not having 100% Hearing, however again i would have thought that would make you realise how precious hearing is, and protect the other ear a little more. (read.. A LOT more!)

In the end i know what you're saying, it is a lot of money, but for myself it was just a couple of hours work (paid work) which i then forgot about as i knew what i was working for from the word go.

Kind of like when people save up for cdj/mixers/whatever they want next.

Anywho, i know where you're coming from now :) I just hope your hearing stays at a reasonable level over the years mate, with your attitude and everything... Fingers crossed!

ps. Ringing for days (tinnitus) is horrible, it's the main reason why i chose to do something about the whole hearing protection. The ear plugs eliminate all the high end frequencies (well tone them down a lot!) Stuff that's inaudible (is that spelt right?) but still damages your ears.. I'm finding it more difficult then i thought though Dj'ing, as the low end has been substantially reduced as well.

At the end of the day you can't put a price on your hearing - you don't get a new set of ears once you've screwed yours up. If you're a DJ playing out often, it won't take that long to develop some kind of hearing problem (however minor). You can't exactly ask the club owner to turn it down a bit, so ear protection like this is your only option really. A hundred or so quid you could have spent on some proper earplugs will seem like nothing when you can't hear anymore!

P.S. Hi from Talkaudio n3lly!

great idea mate! im going to do the same when i got money, i want to look after my hearing. Hearing loss is a huge problem when you get older a large majority of people have problems or are deaf. its something that shouldnt be dismissed as nothing to worry about (if you want to take precautions)

Hey there!

I got a pair of ER25s, about 2 months ago now. Paid $150 CDN for em.
SO I'll assume they're the same as yours except mine have 25db attenuation.
They sound awesome, especially in the city's best sounding nightclub.
Even on other systems, I can hear the problems or distortions that get muddied up by foam plugs or naked ear hearing.

Mine don't pertrude too much, once they've been snug fit in. WHen I use them they do tend to fall out ever so slightly. I'm going to ask for another mold if it gets any worse. My ear doctor told me they would eventually get a slight bit smaller as they mold once again into my ear after common use. The custom moulded ones should have the option of a countersunk filter. If your filters aren't countersunk, you should ask for another mould with them countersunk. I can understand that non-countersunk filter on these plugs would hit your headphones while DJing.... that would piss me off.

ANyways.... enjoy em, as they're your key to a longer hearing life for your ears. As a last suggestion, I'd suggest you get teh 25db filters if you end up getting a second moulding or pair ordered.

OT: I'm SubtleD on TA Nelly, don't post an awful lot, but I'm on there!

I am waiting to get my ears tested and have the molds made. At 32, I have spent many nights with my head burried in the speakers, and I too have had the 3-4 ringing in my ears. I wish I had plugs before, coz now days I get a ringing sensation on occassion which lasts for a couple of minutes before fading away.

those foam plugs are good for cutting high frequency, however they don't do much for the lows. All they really do is muffle the sound...

Protect your ears! If you love music, you want to be able to hear it, right?
