dont get a dreamcast. Sega is officially DEAD. Seriously. They even make Nintendo games now and . However i know someone that has a dreamcast and the graphics are nice, and it does have a few good games. however, compared to all the new systems the dreamcast aint . Basically...if you're getting a kick ass deal (like 50 bucks) you should buy one, but other than that save some money and get a system that is still releasing NEW games. In my area dreamcast games are only at pawn shops.

Thats true. Sega stopped making games for Dreamcast, and are now making games for other consoles. I think that the console you should by is based on what kind of games you like:

Sega Dreamcast mainly has arcade games. That means multiplayer 1 vs 1 type games or racing, or even 4 player games. Basically most stuff you find in a local arcade is by Sega, if you've noticed that. This is for sure the cheapest of the four. The Dreamcast is shaped like a cube, but more rectangular. Nevertherless it is still small and light.

Nintendo Gamecube is good for RPG's, like Mario and Zelda ones. I didnt like N64 too much because they got carried away with the games and have Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Mario Bowling, etc. I dont know if they have all of those, but you know what I mean. The Gamecube basically looks like a small..cube. Pretty neat. If you dont like purple, I'm sure its available in other colors.

Sony Playstation 2 is my favorite, although I dont have one. I dont think I can say what genre of games sums up the PS2, because it has a wide variety. I guess its an all round console. It has a bit of everything. The PS2 basically looks like a VCR. It can be set up sideways with a stand. Sony is popular for their PS1 controller. The PS2 has a similar controller. Its now black and has two anolog sticks on it. There are, however, PS1 controllers that work on Dreamcast, in case you dont like the Dreamcast controller.

Microsoft X-Box...yes, its made by the ever famous Microsoft. I dont really know much about this thing. I know for a fact that it is pretty big. I also heard that the controller is lame. However in Japan the controller will differ (in a good way I think), but I dont know about here.

All in all, the last three consoles are pretty pricey. Around $200 I think, some may be even more. So if your not going to get a Dreamcast, then go for the cheapest one between the rest. Maybe it will help you to decide if you check out what games each console has, and choose the one that has the most games you like. But then again, you probably cant get all of them. Games usually range from $40 to $50. If youre worried about which one has the best graphics, I'll tell you that PS2 is more recent than Dreamcast, and then Gamecube and X-Box are more recent than PS2, so logically the graphics will indeed be better on the more recent ones, but I dont know how much better. Well, good luck with your decision. Hope I helped :D

do not buy a dreamcast!

if you REALLY need a new system and want a DVD player get the PS2 otherwise if you don't really care about the DVD player think about getting the Nintendo Gamecube.

Dreamcast only has a handful of games that are ORIGINAL to the system (meaning not released on other ones). Shenmue for example, great game and only on DC (Shenmue 2 is going to XBox though  ) Jet Grind Radio is another good game only on DC (but the sequel Jet Grind Radio Future is going to XBox also  ).

As for the other systems, I think XBox only has one good game that is REALLY outstanding and that would be Halo. I don't really see much on the XBox release list that I want. I don't like the controller at all, normally Microsoft makes nice controllers but I think Xbox's sucks! O yeah..XBox is big and clunky too..think of putting your computer tower sideways and using it for a gaming system... Advantages: Hard drive, modem built in (no extra cost), excellent online gaming
Disadvantages: BIG & CLUNKY, stupid controller, have to buy the DVD package to play DVDs ($30+)

Gamecube is a little better than XBox gaming wise. There are about 5-7 games that I am interested in playing on GCN.
Advantages: THE THING IS TINY!, confortable controller
Disadvantages: no DVD player

Personally I think that PS2 is easily the best system out. I have 11 games for it all ready and they're all great (being a gamer this is the most I've owned for a system is such a short period of time).
Advantages: EXCELLENT games, DVD, plays PSone games also
Disadvantages: If you have a PS2 already when the Hard drive and modem release it's going to cost extra. (But if you don't have one they will be included when you buy it, and the PS2 will cost the same $290).

In conclusion I wouldn't buy a DC. I knew the system was going to fail from the day it released and it did. The 2 things I would buy a DC for though would be Soul Calibur (best fighting game EVER) and Shenmue (VERY unique game).

Oh man I could not of agreed any better with TeKnoHe@d2025.

Another cool thing for PS2 is that it is backwards compatible, which means you can play your old PSone games on the PS2. I wish GameCube would release Monkey Balls on PS2 though. Oh man, if you've played this game you know how addictive it is.

X-box was a complete disappointment. I'm glad I didn't fall into the hype. I give X-box only one thing, and that's graphics. Halo and DOA2 are just fantastic. But they had the worst release on any game console ever, and it's said that they have a total or 90 games released for this year. Why buy a game console when they barely have games?

I think you mean DOA3 ;) I don't think XBox is going to go anywhere. If you like graphics then sure XBox will suit your needs, but if u go for gameplay then u better look elsewhere (because IMO gameplay is what gaming is all about!). Personally, I like my Game Boy Advance more than XBox :stongue:

by the way SEGA are not dead... the dreamcast is dead but SEGA are not. They are making games for ps2, xbox and gamecube, plus they are still making games for the arcade market.
But seriously tho dont bother getting a Dreamcast now coz no one is making games for them no more.

you guys are sick in the head...here we go vivids insight on the new game consoles...PSII right now is ripping up the markets for one reason..its been out a little longer than xbox and therefore have the better games and have more development going on...NOw Xbox is the better system its more powerful better graphics and has alot more room for development....but the only problem is that there are no good games for it....but they are signing deals with gaming companies and hopefully in the next few months get better games....GameCube is too much of a kiddy system for me..i will not even rate this system because i think its one of the worst systems out there and will not last more than another month...lets face it horrible graphics nuthing no room for improvement...Nintendo doesnt have what it takes....unloess u still like playoing crappy little mario games i suggest u dont invest ur cash into this system....

so in conclusion if u want a system right this second i would go for ps2 because right now it has the better games...but if u want a long term investment buy Xbox they have more capability and at the end will be the better system

A friend of mine just bought one. He gave me for a reason that the games on a ps 2 are too expensive (he's got a ps 2 also, 1 game = 73 euro)
The games on a dreamcast are 10 times cheaper then a game for a ps2. But he is now buying allot of games, because they are not made anymore.

You must consider that too. When you buy a dreamcast you must allot games now, just because they are not made anymore.

And on the dreamcast there are some games that are great, that you don't have on the ps2.
