to repair or not?

I have a korg kaoss mixer and I noticed the crossfader is funking up. there is no channel 1. So whenever I have the chan 2 level up it doesn't matter where the crossfader is, chan 2 is always on. but when chan 1 volume is up and I move the fader to chan 2, the chan 1 volume cuts out.

I also noticed a bit of bleeding in the chan volumes too, when I have the chan vol all the way down I can still hear a bit of it in the other channel. This happens with both and I am not sure if it has to do with the crossfader.

So those are my two problems, the cross fader would not be a problem cause I use my chan volume controls to bring in songs, BUT, since I have that second problem of the chan volume bleeding into the other I need to use the crossfader during cueing so that no volume bleeds over during a quiet part in the active track.

I checked and a replacement part is $52 plus shipping....so its like $70. Now I like this mixer, it has a kaoss pad which is sweet, but it is only 2 channel, and it is 3.5 yrs old. now I have some options.

Pay $52+ and have a decent mixer with possibly bleeding chan volume.

Pay $52+ and sell a decent mixer with possibly bleeding chan volume and try to get a new one that does not bleed.

say it and not replace anything.

say it and not replace anything and save for a new mixer (not a good optino since I am strapped for cash...always)

so any suggestions, words of advice, or cool pictures would be cool. and I hope it all made sense.

...Cliffnotes: Crossfader is messed up on a 3.5 yr old mixer, do I pay $52+ to repair, repair and sell and buy a new better mixer, or sell and buy a new better mixer

get it looked at by someone who knows what they're doing. ask if replacing crossfader will fix it.

so, in any case, replace, sell, use money to buy hotness mixer.

or... use money. gamble it, make thousands, and buy a djm-1000 + efx-1000 and spend the rest on strippers...

:haha:

this is quite clearly the way forward

take it apart and give it a right good clean with fader cleaner etc.
it might help to solve it until you can save enough for a new one!

or just stick it on ebay and get another one.

take out your crossfader and then check the beelding off the upfaders, if they bleed with the crossfader disconnected, the faders are beginning to get messed up.
so you can see before you buy a new crossfader if it's still worth that you invest in something.

and yeah, take the faders out and clean them...

yeh blow the crap out thats prob bedded itself in there over the last few years with a can of compressed air. Its expensive but its got a reasonable amount force coming outta the can. Im lucky enough to work for a laptop workshop so i use the main air line they use for blowing dust off components. worked for me before when the crossfader on my (old) ty numark would cut tracks in full volume!

hehe, I made $292 gambling last night ;) im almost there.

thanks for the advice. The crossfader is simple to get to, but the channel faders are behind 2 large circuit boards on the inside. Its a pain to take apart too. I guess ill blow some air on it and look for a new one. also try the disconnect crossfader idear...
