i've never used either but i know many people who swear by serato scratch live over final scratch.

Serato Scratch Live, I just got it and love it. :D

Okay, so that's not a valid reason. But what is a valid reason is that Serato has really good customer support and they are continuously releasing free updates. From what I've seen/heard, Final Scratch is buggy and they don't try to fix old bugs and instead just keep tacking on new features. Serato is pretty interactive on their forums and they currently have the next version(1.5) in beta and you can see the beta feedback if you go to their forums and browse around. I would also recommend(if possible) trying out both somewhere and comparing them, since personal preference might influence your decision as well.

Serato is meant to be wayyy more stable.

Ableton Live ;)

I have a mate that swears by final scratch, I've used it but not extensively and i think cosmic gate also use it...

my advice is to try both out yourself and see what you like best... read a few reviews of each :)

i am probably going to get serato (99% sure), but i was wondering if there is a certain version i should get, or is there only one version. if i get it, i will get it off of ebay...

right now, i have 2 tt's, a mixer, and a desktop computer. if i got the serato scratch package, what else would i need to make everything work, or does the serato package include everything i need (soundcards, wires, etc..)

thanks,
bisco

ps. also any heads-up advice about serato scratch is welcome...

Serano scratch should contain everything you need in it. I'm not 100% sure though cuz i got Final Scratch and so far it hasn't crashed on me yet.

All the wires are included(4 RCA pair wires to connect both regular and through outputs to your mixer). The version differences are all in software(so far). If you buy it it will probably be 1.3(that's what mine came with) but you can download 1.4 and 1.5 beta from their website. There are two types of vinyl, first and second edition, but it should come with second since first is a lot older. If for some reason you get first edition vinyl, you can buy replacement vinyls which will be second edition for $10. The difference is the first editions have a small drift after a few minutes which the second edition doesn't have.

Bump ^

I know most of you are favoring serato scratch, but i still want to keep this discussion open... i saw a dj the other day with final scratch and i asked him why he didnt have serato and he said that there are more options with final scratch and it comes with traktor. i am definitely buying one or the other, but i just wanted to bump this to see if there were any pro-finalscratch dj's here or if serato is the best hands down...

thanks

if you get FS2 to work on your system then you're sorted. its the better one to have. you can record directly onto your computer and you can link it in with Traktor.

the reason most people prefer SSL is because its more of a "no nonsense" application - no bells and whistles - just a very stable product. With FS its likely something will happen unless ur computer likes it..
