How do you feel about this idea?

| Let's assume for a moment that you could use a change of profession, or for that matter, a job. At the moment, your "market value" limits you to earning no more than, say $15/hr (or who knows, maybe even a lot less!). Now, say a company comes along and offers you guaranteed work (within that same company) in the construction industry, and a position that in less than two years, will pay you well over $20/hr. Not only that, but they offer you a one-year guaranteed employment contract, starting at $12/hr, that will be yours if you complete some training (part-time, about two weeks), pass a basic test, and agree to do your very best while working for the company. Now, how would you feel about this idea? What if the training was non-paid? What if the training cost a few hundred bucks? I realize that the last sentence probably didn't cause you to start jumping with enthusiasm, but wouldn't a few hundred bucks be a small price to pay for the security of guaranteed employment, plus the chance to earn a lot more money that you would otherwise be earning? |
