when it comes to breaks you have to understand one thing. "breaks is dancers music" and thats the bottom line. if you like to shake it and wanna get down there is nothing better than some good ol' breaks.
- funky breaks - EVERYBODY loves funky breaks (everybody loves anything funky). music that puts a big ass smile on your face and makes you work that dancefloor hard at the same time. some of the best times i ever had was at the orange room, whooting and holering and bustin a move with james browns "superbad" remix in the backgrond.
check out dj icey and dj love cause it aint getting funkier than that. and fatboy slim his older sets.
- old school breaks - aaaaaaaaah, the real deal. there is always some serious business going down on a old school nights, you got your crews battling it out, crazy crazy moves, people high fiving each other, posers just posing, haters hatin'...... old school breaks are there to remind us all that hip-hop was actually really really good before. and the is nothing sexier then when youre bustin a move and theres this tiny sex machine who does 3step then headstand and a spin, looks you in the eyes and say "now show me what you really got". nothing!
bassbin twins and toronto's own d-monic are the when it comes to old school (d-monic is a sick, sick bastard)
- nu skool - taking the world by the storm. i didnt really understand why is everybody so hyped up about nu skool till freq nasty handed me my ass back on 2 separate occasions. twisted, evil, dark and moody - if you like any of those you will like nuskool for sure. and if you know how to dance, youll love this , dont ask why, go check it out and youll see :)
freq nasty (this guy is really something, no bull), evil 9, adam freeland, rennie pilgrem, plump dj's.... too many, all good
there is no prog breaks, its just prog, the good kind of prog.
house - i like my house dirty and grimy with lotsa drums and sweat. but im not expert on it so im not gonna try and school ya (digital in 3....2....1....GO) |

Genres shmonres.
Just listen to different artists people recommend, and you decide whether or not its a style for you.
We could go on for days, months even, arguing over a track being anything from prog, to prog house, to house, etc.
There is no clear cut definition anymore as to what a peticular genre is, producitons these days are WAY beyond that..... |

The amount of genres and their sub-genres and even there sub-sub- genres are constantly always growing and expanding.
Some genre names just seem to die out ex. speed garage
Some genres almost seem interchangable ex. hardhouse/harddance
Some genres change name based on where you are ex. in the U.K. its called hardhouse here we tend to call it nu-nrg.
Some genre names I've seen on flyers just seem to appear out of knowwhere? like multigrooves or eurgrooves. I don't think they caught on though lol
I can go on for awhile really. |
