I guess i don't deserve to call myself a true horror / slasher film buff after all.

It's ok. Takashi Miike is a Japanese film director. Go see these movies immediately:

The Happiness of the Katakuris
Ichi the Killer
his segment in "Three...Extremes"
his episode "Imprint" in the Masters of Horror Showtime series

and especially and most importantly:

Audition

Eli Roth got the inspiration for Hostel after watching Audition. In fact, the general concept of Hostel is exactly the same as Audition's. It's already considered one of the greatest horror films of all time.

Anyway, Miike has a cameo in Hostel. I wondered what he did.

im a big horror fan (especially asian/foreign horror) and yes, Miike made a cameo in "Hostel". He's the asian guy with the shades you see when the main character, Paxton (Jay Hernandez) arrives at the "hostel". He's asked what's in there and Miike replies

"Be careful. You could spend all your money in there."

nothing great, but still, Roth pays homage to a true contemporary horror genius.

for those who have never seen a miike film, go rent Īchi The Killer, Dead or Alive, or Audition...and prepare to be disturbed, confused, introduced to a whole new level of ed up

:nervous:

Audition is actualy one of my favorite horror movies, I just never catalouged the entire cast and credits of the movie into my palm pilot for memorization...you understand.

But i checked out the guy's picture and he has a short and creepy conversation with the main character right before he walks into an abandoned warehouse to find his best friend being cut to bits.

for such a knowledgable Miike fan, I would have thought you would have seen the movie already...

that wasn't the hostel, just an abandoned warehouse.

[i][b]Tarantino rarely disappoints IMO.

no offense, but tarantino had nothing to do with the actual production or idea behind the film, he just tagged his name onto it because he funded the advertising and made sure it got into theaters with a big buzz (advertising a film is one of the most expensive parts of making a movie). hes done it before with movies he "thinks" he discovered before everyone else so he can just get more exposure with the press. personally hes an ok filmmaker but hes way too pompous and thinks hes the .

so tarantino :whip:

but eli roth deserves mad props :p

umm...it may not be the hostel where the dudes are staying but its the place where all the tourists are taken to get hacked up in the basement...hence its the "hostel"

;)

I heard a pretty long interview with Roth on the Booker show on Thursday and he said Tarantino actually did have a lot to do with the production, even the actual writing of the script.

i dont have the cast and credits on my palm pilot either, but i DO make it a point to know who directed a movie (especially those i like) since, as you should know, a movie is the primary work of a director...

Hostel is low on my priority list...I've still yet to see a few of the December movies which, of course, takes priority...
