I think Canadians are finally sick of liberal arrogance. The conservatives are even ahead a little bit in ontario! Gasp!
| quote: | TORONTO (Reuters) - The Conservatives have built up their widest lead in the election campaign so far, and appear to have the edge heading into the January 23 election, according to a poll released on Monday.
The Strategic Counsel poll, conducted for The Globe and Mail daily and CTV News, showed the Conservatives have the support of 37 percent of Canadian voters, well above the 29 percent support for the ruling Liberal Party.
It was the Conservative Party's widest lead since the election campaign started last November.
"This is huge," the newspaper quoted Strategic Counsel head Allan Gregg as saying. "This really does show ... (the Conservatives) have slowly convinced the population that they are not kind of offside of the mainstream of Canada."
The left-wing New Democratic Party lost ground from the previous survey, gleaning support from only 15 percent of voters and performing poorly in the crucial electoral battleground of Ontario, where parties must do well to garner a large numbers of seats after the election.
The results came out hours before two debates by party leaders on Monday and Tuesday night, which could shape the tone of the final two weeks of the campaign. They show a significant gain in support for the Conservatives compared with the previous Strategic Counsel survey.
The previous poll, conducted January 3 to January 5, gave the Conservatives 33 percent support, and the Liberals 31 percent. The NDP, who propped up the minority Liberal government in the last Parliament, had 17 percent.
Opposition parties brought the government down late last year over a scandal centering on kickbacks to leading Liberals during a poorly conceived advertising campaign to promote a united Canada.
Other scandals have emerged since then, increasing voter perception of the Liberals as complacent and arrogant after 12 years in power.
Strategic Counsel conducted its latest poll of 1,500 Canadians between January 5 and January 8. It says the survey is accurate within 2.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

It will be interesting to see how low the liberals go. But i suspect that since this time canadians are expecting it, that it wont work nearly as well. Canadians have actually started to see the liberals for what they are. |

I must admit though - the conservatives could spend a little more money on TV advertising, their TV commercial is so ghetto, if they are serious about people "Standing up for Canada" they should try convey that in their commercial production quality.
but yes i would like to watch the debate, what time? |

I still doubt that the conservatives will win the majority.
Unfortunately I'm not home to watch tonight, but hopefully I can tape it. |

I think this debate is in same format as the last one. So I dunno how much effective mudslinging the leaders can do.
I also got class tonight... Ah well. |

I don't think so either. However i can totally see a minority Cons govt happening. That was the prediction in December anyways. |

A lot of people thought minority Conservative govt was possible last election too... So let's not get ahead of ourselves. ;)
But yeah, Harper does seem to have the momentum. You never know though, he's got so many things he could trip on and fall on his ass. (Like one of his retarded Conservative members opening his/her yap) (Yes, I'm talking to you, Gordon O'Connor) |

| Voting for a party in general is wortheless... all of them suck. The best thing one can do, is voter for the best candidate in your riding, someone who can actually do something for you. |
