Yeah but liking someone as a mate is different to liking them when you are going out (or them you) and being around each other even more.
For all you know it would have been crap and you wouldn't have the ace friend you have now.
EDIT: Also I've had a long distance thing (not as long as some of the people here have said though) it doesn't work. That was for a few years too. I'll explain why if anyone is interested but otherwise I'll not bore ya. |

I usually embrace this attitude when it comes to my past, but hes my only regret from highschool, which is now a long time ago. I should get over it, but Im pretty sure the reason Im not is because I have nothing but jerks to choose from right now. Im getting antsy to get outta here and into a different school/city/state. I need fresh meat.

I do sympathize with your situation; I can see why it might cause you to dwell more than you should. Unfortunately the same rule holds just about everywhere: there are a lot of fish in the sea, and most of them are bottom feeders. |

A similar thing happened to me when I was a senior in high school. I remember this girl who I was really really close with and was in my PE class. Everytime I would change into my exercise attire she would save a spot just for me. We spent the hour cuddling and talking about whatever was up at the time. One thing led to another and she brought up prom. This was still the beginning of the school year and she was already dead set on going with me. She even kept dropping so many hints at me and I simply acted like an a**hole and pretended and ignore them like I was some type of big shot. Man, I hated myself for that. After graduating high school, I never saw her again and regret not ever solidifying our relationship. She will be missed. |
