Software for re-editing tracks

What software do you recommend for re-editing tracks (to fit your sets better) - In the same way someone like PVD does?

Thanks.

Depends how much re-editing you want to do. If its just extending the start and end, then any sequencer or multitracker that you can set tempo and copy and paste audio with would do fine. If you want to add in extra elements like samples or synth parts, then something like Ableton Live or Acid would work fine.

Ooooh this is my specialist subject. :-)

I hate to raise Pro Tools here (useless for most people on this board unless you want to spend on the megabucks TDM gear to complement your big ass studio), but it really is absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt THE best software for chpping up and manipulating audio.

For what you need you only need the most basic of basic M-Audio system, which is actually affordable. Hell I used to do this with a Mac IIci and an Pro Tools II (Ie 4 track, no effects) waaay back. You could probably buy a whole system on ebay for $100 that would do it. 16 bit, but if you slurping off CD or vinyl and just doing basic edits it is more than good enough.

But if you want to run on what harware you already have the M-Powered system would keep you happy for many many years doing edits and mucking about with your DJ sets etc.

With the advent of PT 7 you get ACID support which is very handy if you want to move from straight edits into mashups..
