Some friends want to go this weekend and I wanted to know what to expect. Anyone been already? What did you think?

This may be of help.

My gf went a couple of weeks ago and told me she will never go back. After paying a $20 cover they left after an hour of so. She said it is a magnet for sleazy/flashy guys and plastic girls. Some dude actually tried to bite her on the ear. Another guy sent his sister over and tried to pick her up for him. You have to trip over the obligatory Ferrari parked in front too.

It seems at this time the best thing about Stingaree is it will draw all the douche bags in the gaslamp into one area to avoid.

I have seen it from the outside and it looks impressive. But it appears more like a bar than a club. I know it cost millions to renovate the building.

I still want to go and judge it on my own. This month’s talent at On Broadway is minimal. But I am disappointed that Stingaree didn't take a more musical direction rather than the VIP cubical direction it chose.

The new club I want to check out is Belo.

I agree and I hope this works. I've heard the same exact review of this club from others.

Yep - its getting a lot of bad press.
Maybe that whole "Exclusive" mentality in San Diego is starting to backfire.

Okay, so I just got home.

It's 12:52, and I just got back from downtown to Solana Beach.

The space is okay, and the sound system is pretty decent, considering. Early on, lounge-wise, the DJ did okay.

We got there around 10:00 and I was with a pretty big group, and we had a table.

It wasn't bad until around 11:30, but it just wasn't my scene any more, even after doing several one-hits in the can.

I finally left when Salt'n'Pepa's "Push it Real Good" was beatmixed into "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns 'n' Roses. The crowd went nuts. I had licked out a plastic bag with E power on the way down as a little pick me up, but it wasn't enough for the moment. So I headed out to get my car for the drive home, comfortable with the idea that there was nothing for me there, and ready for a change of secenery, anything.

Anyway, somebody said that the reviews were bad and the place isn't going to make it. Listen, if these people want the place, they can have it. And it was packed. And it was expensive. So I sort of left the place with the quiet satisfaction that when I show up at 4th and B and I see Victor outside trying to make sure his people get it, I'm a lot more comfortable with the idea that almost nobody is there that night by accident, and that goes a lot farther in kickstarting a good night from the very beginnning.

So maybe I'll see some of you next Friday.

But go ahead and steer clear of Stingaree, I don't think you'd be impressed by much of anything, other than it acts as a magnet for people who wouldn't contribute much to the night you planned on having anyway.
