This album reminded me a lot of Hello Waveforms, only darker. I liked it overall, but some of the tracks I just felt were more noise than anything, like Grandfathered and Bumblechord. Mainly, I only reaaaaalllly liked it from The Sky Was Pink on down. The first part of the album was too out there for me.
A good listen if you're stoned and in for something marginally twisted.
6.5/10.

Just had a quick listen. I'm a big fan of his previous stuff, but I have to say that this is slighlty dissapointing. However, it still does have some great moments.
The thing I'm most dissapointed with is the fact that Long Sunny does not sound like the version he played in some of his live sets from around a year ago. And I've been waiting to hear a full version ever since... too bad. Hopefully that version finds a release somehow. Also, there are a couple fillers, which i always find a little pointless. Another thing that strikes me is that a lot of the tracks sound a little too similar. Basically, a stretched out melody with soft drums in the background and a 'noisy' finish.
As for the good, 'You are here' is my fav track from the album, having a killer guitar riff. The first 3 tracks are also good. Plus, you have TSWP, which is already a classic (with a little help from a guy called Holden).
The album is still a great chillout piece. It has a similar sounds to the other border community artist of recent times, Fairmont. But, i guess it just wasn't what i was expecing (or perhaps was hoping for).
Anyways, 7/10. |
