| i know a lot of people complained that they had mostly chinese people playing the rolls, but i don't really see the big deal. british people play americans, australians play brits, americans try to play everyone...so i don't think it's inappropriate for the chinese to play the japanese. |

They changed alot more than the ending.
That said I thought the movie was pretty boring. The book is way better. Honestly the just used the name "Memoires of a Geisha" to sell tickets. They could have called it ANYTHING. |

really? then I'll have to read the book too.. I thought the film was pretty genious, but usually the story/book behind the adaptation is better |

the movie was a let down, but so were most of the movies this year.
i had not problem with Zhang Ziyi playing the role, but most of the Japanese community was in uproar, and i can understand them. comparing it to say, american, brits, ausies, playin each other interchangably is not the same thing. ASIA, in which many language and cultures will be found, more in the same concept as an Italian playing Irish.
and don't give me this, they all look the same bull. but that's the job of an actor right, to become anything, theoretically....
and that's why the movied sucked, because none of the actors brought their A game, except Li Gong. never cared for the main characters, or whatever "romance" there was between Ken and Zhang. Director could have done a better job. screenplay was mediocre.
finally, going to have to agree with Nou, on the whole language thing.
but in all truth, if it was subtitled, most of you wouldn't have gone scene the flick.
6/10
watchable, that's about it.
The movie was aimed at an American Market, so what can you expect. |
