A Little Help?

I'm an FL man, through and through, no denying it.
But,
I've tried to automate fx, tried, being the operative term here.
I know how to automate most aspects of the program by using playlist channels, main automation being the most obvious etc etc.
I cannot however automate when and/or where an effect is applied.
To explain:
I highlight the main automation channel on the playlist for example.
Just as I would, hmmmm, for any other automated effect which I may want to use.
When I record or apply event editions within the fx window (bearing in mind that the effect i am working with is being applied to the correct channel or instrument etc) nothing happens during playback of my track with respect to the editions I have made to the fx rack.
That is that the changes I made during recording or within the edit event window of the effects rack are not taking place as I instructed/recorded, even though I recorded in main automation and also tried drawing them in manually using edit events within the main automation playlist track and again in the edit events of the fx in question. The fx in question are in house FL fx which to me is even more bizarre.
Hope this makes sense.
And I hope I don't look too much a fool.
But it is annoying.
Any thoughts? |

I have never used FL (well, once for like 5 minutes at guitar center :P), but if I understand your question, what I think you need to do is create a sequencer track (or whatever you'd call it in FL) dedicated to said FX module...then see if it follows along. If this sounds retarded, then it probably is, and don't mind me :P |

lol i dont know if this helps...but what i do..is if i have a synth ..and its placed in like FX channel 1 and i have a filter on it..and i wanted to use that one instead of the synth one....i click on a empty pattern..hit the record button..and play with the filter until i got what i liked. So when i play back..the riff on the synth pattern plays...and while the marker is going in the playlist..it plays with the empty pattern that i used for automating..and i guess that turns up the filter knob n whatnot. Im not so good at telling ppl what i do ..i just do what i know to do lol. Tried the manual? |

Since FL is a sequencer, isnt every track in it a sequencer track? What he wants to do is make an automation track to automate when/where the effect is applied. In other words he wants to automate the on/off/mute/unmute butten on an effect. I dont remember how to do it exactly since I havent used FL in awhile.. but I remember its pretty obvious and self explanatory.. Actually I just remembered.. :p you just right click what you want to automate and click 'make automation track for selected parameter' or something like that |

Cool.
So I need to use a dedicated playlist track for the automation of whatever effect.
I'll give it a try and post back, thanks. |

Ok, I used a new playlist track to edit events of a flanger on the master fx channel.
I wanted to bring the flanger in an out at certain points in the track.
So when I made the events in the dedicated plalist track a new box appeared in the playlist for that track for the time I edited in the edit events window.
It makes sense and works and now I dont have a whole load of automation all in the one main automation track.
I don't know why I didn't think like that before.
Thank you for your help guys. |

First, start off by adding your effect to the proper mixer channel.
Next, go to the browser window by pressing F8, then move to Current Project, Effects, find the correct effect for your channel, right click on the part you'd like to automate, in this case the cutoff and go to create automation clip.

Lastly, go to your playlist and click where you'd like to place your automation clip in the song. Resize the clip to how long you'd like it to last through the song. Now create the automation as if you were doing the editing events thing. As you see here I'm turning down the cutoff until the 3rd beat of the 8th measure and then making it go all the way back up to fully open.
