When I'm at UConn, I have a super fast internet connection. However, on the vacations I get stuck with my parent's networked dial-up.So for those of you who have DSL or cable, next time you are having internet trouble, remember these numbers and you'll feel instantly better: My parents have a 56k modem, but because we live out in the boonies, we really only have 28k. Then my dad decides to network with this dial-up connection so I really only get 14k. I have heard rumor of there being three computers running at once, but I've never been here for that. Quite seriously, my internet is slower than cold molasses going uphill in the middle of winter.
Feel free to share your internet/computer horror stories, I feel this thread could get quite amusing.
I also had a fireball come out the back of my CPU box once, but that's for another time.:happy2: |

| I remember leaving my computer on at night to download livesets (each one would take around 6 hours). Many the dialup days sucked. |

| i just love being in a hand in an online poker tourney and having my connection drop out. Then when I get back I am down 1/3 of my chip stack. |

I use to do this too, just leave my company dial-up connected 24-7. Only I didn't realize that I wasn't dialing the local number like I was supposed to but, instead I was dialing the Nationwide number that cost more money PER MINUTE.
The next month I got an e-mail from some guy at Corporate saying "DON'T DO THAT ANYMORE, YOUR CONNECTION COST US $3,345 LAST MONTH." I almost crapped my pants. Can't believe I didn't get fired. |

| During my napster days i had a 56k. I would always download at a maximum rate of 5kb/s on a good day, but most of the time it ran at 2-3 kb/s. I would get really excited when it hit the 9-10 range. Gosh, what a nooben i was.:clown: |

With my dedicated phone line i would download for 3 days non-stop to get PSX and Dreamcast games. good times. |
