The epic Land of Freedom was first futured on Transwave's album Phototropic in 1996. It was tributed to Man With No Name hence the name Land of Freedom (Tribute to MWNN). Man With No Name had during this time massive successes in the trance scene, especially after the release of his debute album Moment of Truth (1996). The impact he had on the scene was so huge so there was no wonder acts such as Transwave dedicated one of their most memorable tunes to the man.
Transwave was one of the leading trance duos from France during the mid 90-s together with other successful acts such as Blue Planet Corporation, Jaļa and Total Eclipse. France is often today seen as a country with a dead trance scene. But many seem to forget that in the early and mid 90-s France had with no doubt some of the most professional trance producers and the sheer amount of quality releases spawning out from France was amazing.
When i bought Phototropic back in 1997 Land of Freedom was instantly one of the tunes that caught my attention. The thick bassline together with the strong melody is geniously done.

| Oh yes. Probably the best Transwave track around. |

That's something new. I always thought France pumped out French house only. |

| Would Two Fishes be considered another good French trance act? |

| Good . I'm kind of appalled I haven't heard of it yet myself. I'll have to look into this one. |

| Good tune. Classic. But The Rezwalker is perhaps even better, not the same album though... |

I was at a house party for Albert Hofmann's 100th bday celebration and everyone was totalled on acid and unable to play... I didn't bring any music, but a bunch of people asked me to drop some tunes, so there I was with a few binders full of psy and Goa and a few hours to putter around :) I ended up playing the full spectrum, from just released to ancient classic. I played three old tunes - LSD, Teleport, and... this one! But it was the remix from DTG 5. I guess the fun part was simply that the CDs people had did not always have tracklists on them, so it was a matter of going 'hmmm, I think it's, ah... track 5?' and then checking. Fun times :)
There's lots of great modern trance from France anyway... Jaia, Silicon Sound, Blue Planet Corp (still in the game), Talamasca, and if you like it harder - Absolum and the 3D Vision crew. If old school is your thing then check out Khetzal's new album on Suntrip - it's a gorgeous trip back in time... |

| Oh yes. One of the top moments on Phototropic album. I need to get hold of Helium as well. This is the kind of goa trance i happen to like even if i'm not the biggest fan. |
