The Uygers(weegers) are Chinese muslims. During the begining of the operations in Afganistan, the US troops were handed 2 and they have been held in Guantanamo since.
9 months ago, they were declard not to be enemy combants by the military tribunal, and recently a US judge declared them innocents, but despite these rulings, they are still in Guantanamo.
The third detainee under these rulings was liberated if you can call it that from a Taliban prison where he was being held after attempting to assasinate Bin Laden. The US troops sent him to G.Bay.
Why are they still being held??
US has asked 25 countries to take them, but no-one wants them. If they go back to China they would probably be held in custody there. There is a small community of these chinese in Washigton, so why not let them live in the US.
They should be compensated - held for 4 years as innocents. |
