5yrs isn't long enough

I heard on the radio this morning on my way to work that a David Braun is getting a 5yrs sentence for manslaughter. His lawyer said that it was a fluke, a Mike Tision(sp?) punch.
The man he killed almost 2yrs ago, Gabriel Covaciu, was a very good friend of mine if not my best friend at the time. Just when his life was starting to work out for him and has a plan for the future it ended before he knew it.
I believe that 5yrs is not enough for that bastard. I know that it was an accident that he didn't mean to kill him but he had planed to beat the out of him. And for what, a girl. Aparnently Gabe hooked up with David's ex-girlfriend and David being the 'thug' that he is decided to beat him up.
The day that Gabe died he was phoned by some girl that he didn't expect to get a call from ever and asked if they could meet up somewhere and he agreed. While he was waiting an suv pulled up and out came David, one of his friends and two other guys and they went to surround him. As everyone was closing in David punched him in the head and his head hit the brick wall beside him. After his head hit the wall he looked at his friend that came with him then ran across the road and collapsed on the ground.
He was rushed to the hospital and was pronounce dead. His temple had hit the wall which cause like a brian hemridge(or something). Personally I think that David should get a longer sentence then 5yrs. |

I agree. 5 yrs for causing the death of a human being.
sickening. 5 yrs is a long time to think about that...but someone is DEAD. when are people going to be held accountable for their actions? :whip:
I knew someone who's brother was killed by a drunk driver...he got 3 or 4 years...that's ing ridiculous too :( |

u kill a person on purpose and take their life away, its only fair that your life should be taken away
5yrs is just disgusting for an act liek that |

he should be tortured to a slow and painful death.

5 years is definately not enough. But the courts have to take into consideration the intention of the act. The guys lawyer clearly convinced the courts that his intention wasn't to kill your friend.
The problem is many cases are based on common law. Thus, they are unable to...or if they did would be to open a can of worms...to sentence him longer.
But I definately agree that 5 years is insufficient for killing someone. Even if the intention wasn't there to kill, it was there to injure. I can definately understand your fustration. But thats the boundaries of law these days, they have to follow the rules, even if criminals do not. |

| very sad story, 5 years definitely isn't long in comparrision to taking the life of a young man, but I don't think that the same sentence should be granted to someone who intentional murders vs someone who does not intend to kill someone. It's kindof like that hockey dad story in the states where they physically fought and one of the men ended up dead, soooo sad, but it was an odd fluke that a physicaly altercation like that could go awry and actually cause a death. But if it was my friend who was murdered I would be completely livid at the thought of 5 years. |

| I think that the kid is 20 now and i think he should be there for atleast 10-15yrs so that he comes out an older man and had alot of time to think about what he did. |
