I'm a bit skeptical of how often styli "need" to be changed. I have two Ortofon Nightclubs that I bought at the same time over a year ago, and recently figured it was time to switch them out. So I bought one Ortofon DJ stylus, planning to get a second, but haven't yet bothered. I can't really tell any difference between the new DJ stylus and the old Nightclubs. In fact, even after a year of average use, the Nightclubs seem to sound a bit better.
I also keep my records very clean and brush my stylus between most play. I've noticed no major downhill of treble or deterioration of punchiness to indicate the Nightclubs failing. So perhaps it depends on how you take care of them. Constantly running an uncleaned needle over dusty grooves is probably not a formula for longevity. |
true, if you keep your records clean and your styli clean, you shouldn't have any problems making your needles last, especially for bedroom djs
the whitelabels i mentioned on average see at least 20 hours of use a week in varying conditions with many different djs and styles
not a recipie for long lasting needles |

| I've had my White Label's for about a year and a half by now, and I still haven't noticed any significant change in sound quality loss.... |

| i change needles after every outdoor party. so every 2-4months. at home they see about 8-12hours of use a week, on squeaky clean records. i'm pretty stickler about keeping my records and needles clean. i noticed a lot people aren't very keen on vinyl care, especially after seeing some dj's play records that are so dusty they are actually light gray, instead of black. for some reason not many people notice/use the record cleaning kit i leave next to the mixer in the coffin. -so i don't want to use those needles again at home. |
