ok so i'm trying to reformat because my sound drivers are acting weird, and since it's a new one it didn't come with a CD i guess it's just on the system and i tried to find online how to do it but nothing works so DOES ANYONE know how to reformat a new dell to factory settings? ... i have an inspiron 600m if that helps

Is this a Dell Scanner?
Aristronica
no it's a laptop

well, i have a dell laptop as well. it really should've come with both a windows installation cd and a cd for drivers and
you should be able to just go to dos (can be tricky, but possible), format c:*.*, then boot with the windows cd and then after use the drivers cd

to best of my knowledge every new system should always come with a system restore cd without one you won't be able to reformat. anyways you paid extra for a dell might as well use their customer support and they'll walk you tru what you need to do.
Aristronica
the new dells don't... there was like a little paper in a CD shape and it said 'hey you you don't need a CD' but i lost it.

then on that page, enter your service tag (sticker on the back or side of your comp, has a barcode on it) and enter that into the site. Follow insructions thereafter, and presto.

hey.

download or borrow a copy of windows xp. get a boot disk to boot off of the floppy drive. you can get this at www.bootdisks.com . when you get the dos prompt type format c:
then reboot with the cd in with windows xp on it.

hope this helps a little.

Dell 600m comes with a utility partition that contains factory image of your system. You need to shut down your system, as soon as it is starts, hit F12 - it should come up with a boot menu. You can choose system restore from there.

also, visit forums at support.dell.com and type "reinstall OS" or system restore. You'll find instructions.

Calling dell tech support would be like this:
