help making psy ribbit sound

Just wondering how to go about recreating that classic psy ribbit sound effect from scratch. (with VSTs like Vanguard etc, or ANY other method which you enjoy).

Here's a link to a file that has song clips which features that ribbit sample prominently.

Thanks PSYTAs :thepirate

edit: /me checks that FAQ tutorial thingy...

oh well, this is specific, I know how to do a lot of that stuff already... but i'll keep poking around at those

The first sound is a single saw-wave run through a Band Pass filter or a High Pass filter. The second and third sound might be a narrow pulse run through a BPF or HPF filter.. The last sound is probably a saw-wave run through a BPF or HPF filter..

Dont forget the effects btw.. The first sound has a multi-tap delay.
DJFreaq
ok i'll try that

also, it is an interesting effect, because it seems to be "chopped" somehow, like at an exteremly fast rate. The amplitude is going up and down rapidly to give it that ribbit sound I imagine.

anyway, i'll keep poking around

Yeah, that's what happenes when you play a saw wave through a HPF filter at very low octaves. Forgot to mention that..

I think that chopping effect comes from a rather fast, random filter cutoff + detuning action. You can do that in Albino for example with an LFO modulating the cutoff or pitch with the LFO wave set to "random". Or you do just some automation with some wild random cutoff action. The stuttering effect is then obviously provided through a gate.
As a wave, I would suggest a pulse or a sawtooth. I think you can achieve the best results with Frequency Modulation.
And to give this the the "zipping" character, a phaser with the right settings can help too.

Here is what I did in 10 minutes... one vanguard preset, one albino preset and the project file, 9kb small.

You can also listen to the mp3 of my short experiments with it here:

The first sound is made with vanguard and its a pulse wave with some PWM and fast detuning.

The second sound is made with Albino 2. I am not sure if this is 100% what you are looking for, but I tried my best ;)

I would think its a saw wave, with a lfo controlling pitch, and highpass filter with resonnance, with a little bit of distortion or filter saturation.....but im not at home now so i dont know....ill try it out later

As always cybernetica, you never cease to amaze me. I should start a cybernetica fan thread. Those samples were dope. Well done. That's pretty much the sound I was going for.

Now to keep experimenting.

a bit OT question, but from what song is the last sample? :D
I wouldn't mind to know :)

the samples were from these songs:

1. Cosma - Lemon Light
2. Astrix - Tweaky
3. Pystek - Latinos
4. Logic Bomb - Kilobyte Bandit
5. 1200 Mics - Ayahuasca

Thanx.
And BTW... You could try KarmaFX Synth (grab it from here if you don't have it) for all those ribbits - it can do whole bunch of fx'es and strange noises .:)
