See, there you go again calling me a feminist. Just because I have him clean the house and do the laundry and I bitch and gripe until I get a raise because so and so got a raise and he's a male and that's the only reason he got it doesn't make me a feminist damnit.

:p

I've been called a feminist and I DO go on a rant from time to time about feminism... but only when I actually see a situation when men are being favoured above women, and only when I actually hear about a law that is trying to be passed that places more men in the dominating spot. I've been called a feminist, but I wouldn't consider myself one. I'm an equal rights activist. I stand up for equal rights for everyone, not just women. I've protested for gay rights, for african american rights, for native american rights, for womens rights... my major at the UNI was International Politics for a long time... I was a huge activist.

I could say a joke right now but it would be harsh and uncalled for. But funny (atleast to me). I'm to keep it to myself unless it is asked for... hmmm :toothless

Well the first thought that came to my mind was: typical women... it's all you, you, you, you. :p

I love feminists just because they love gay guys. :D

I think feminism is a lot like Christianity or psychology: you have a lot of nut cases, even popular ones, giving it a bad name (i.e. conservative right wing freaks, Freud), but the overall and in-depth organzation/field means well.

renegade was pretty accurate. i wrote my hons thesis on feminism and he can recall more than i can. theres something very wrong with you buddy :p

what youve all gotta realise though is that feminism is just as fractured as any other body of thought. you have your liberal, radical, post-modern, marxist etc feminists. youd be surprised at just how polarised the feminist movement/theory is.

ive never seen the mackinnon quotes, but ive read a fair amount of her work, and she never seemed to be that loopy. theres way way worse stuff coming from the post modern feminists  find some of that. its a bloody joke.

quote:

I thought Feminism was supposed to be about equality, not hateing men and ignoring maternal responsibilities.

that depends on which area of thought you believe. liberal feminism is about formal (or legislative) equality, they judge freedom/equality by what freedoms men (apparently) already have.
the radicals want to destory the patriarchal nature of all societies, they argue women can never be truly free until until the dominant male ideology is snuffed out (tho im not sure what they would have take its place). they also tend to divide again into those that strive for equality, and those that strive for difference (as they argue men and women are inherently different).
the marxist femos argue women can never be equal under capitalism, and that capitalism in itself is another form of specific female oppression.
the postmodernists sit in their lofty academic buildings writing self-obsessed, deep, hard theory that isnt doing the first fvcking thing for women, anywhere, or ever. coz nobody outside their little world ever reads/understands them.

i think you could take quotes out of context from most bodies of work and come up with some absurd propositions. theres an abundance of interesting theory out there that has nothing to do with man-hating, its just that the man-haters get all of the attention.

in a nutshell, youll find as many feminists disagreeing with those quotes as you would agreeing imo.

They really are rather reasonable. I don't understand why anyone would object :conf: .

Speaking of jokes ...

What do you tell a woman with two black eyes?
Nothing. You already told that bitch twice.

How many feminists does it take to change a lightbulb?
Eleven. One to change the lightbulb and ten to form the Victims of Darkness Support Group

How do you make a woman have an orgasm?
Who cares.

How do you tell a woman is lying?
Her lips are moving.

Why do women have ?
So men will talk with them.

What's the best thing about a blowjob?
10 minutes of silence

Why do women wear makeup and perfume?
Because the're ugly and they stink.

How many women does it take to change a light bulb?
Just one. She holds the bulb still while the world revolves around her.

What do you do if your dishwasher breaks down?
Kick her in the ass.

Edit: Btw, I have a good story behind some of these jokes. I really don't give two s what people think of me, and I abhor PCness (obviously because my halloween costume consisted of priest costume in combination with creating a manequin kid whose head was at penis level). I told a bunch of these jokes in front of a big group of people and some women (and men whose girlfriends were present ;) ) were offended because they were degrading. I responded by saying that the jokes reflected the progressive and changing role of women in the eyes of men and thus men cope with these unfamiliar changes by inventing jokes that perpetuate stereotypes. If people couldn't identify with the changing stereotypes than these jokes would have no comedic appeal. Thus not only should they welcome such jokes, but they should consider it beneficial and a positive sign that I was telling them the jokes. I was greeted with silence as they struggled to organize a response. One of the greatest moments in my joke history.

all of those were great :stongue:

yeah, PC does suck arse, but at the same time i reckon some of us :D owe PC in the sense that there are so many ways to shock and offend now ;) when im in the mood i live for awful humour to see what kindve reaction id get, and i reckon PC has made lots of stuff taboo.

except of course that variants of those kind of jokes wouldve been around for years, well before perceived female emancipation. i dont think people should be offended by them (ever), however i really doubt you could justify them in that way. the terminology might change and reflect modern trends but i think thats as reflective or progressive as they get ;)

Peter and Louis Griffin watch a sexist TV commercial with females clad in lingerie
Louis: "You can tell a guy created that Ad"
Peter: "Of course a guy created it Louis, it's a television commercial not a delicious thanks giving dinner"

Coming from the same women that believe that killing a foetus is alright because 'it's their body' but a born baby is no longer eligible.

I little something regarding feminist idiots.
