Ego ... I agree ... although good discussions, debate and sharing of ideas are a crucial part of the political process. However ... that being said, maybe you missed this part of the post:

If any of this text confuses you, I highly encourage you to do some research of your own as everyone who votes should be responsible and inform themselves of all the issues before voting!

REMEMBER: You should not be voting for the party that promises you the most ... instead, you should be voting for the party that you think will be able to deliver the most and adjust best to the uncertainties of the future while never losing focus of the values you hold as important. After doing much research, to me, the choice is clear! But again, please take the time to inform yourself on as many issues as posible before deciding on how to vote!

Fir3 .. I wasn't refering to you in reading .. I was refering to the 2 people who posted within 3-4 minutes of the post!

Speaking of garbage though:

Who ever said Conservatives aren't Canadian? All I said is that they don't represent the most socialized leftist views which over 2/3rds of Canadians value.

Canadian conservatives couldn't be US Republicans if they tried ... although both are right-wing conservative ideology based parties. But I don't know anyone who thinks the two are the same?

I'm personally very pro-American and agree they shuold be viewed as our friends to the south. I think it was a mistake when Martin didn't forewarn the Americans that we were pulling out of missle defence ... but that does not mean that I'm going to support a right wing government. I'd rather have a government that makes a few mistakes but runs the country based on my ideologies than a faultless government that doesn't share my concerns for the environment, the economy, education, Medicare and other institutions that Canadians like to see run in a more center-left manner!

That being said .. even you'll have to agree ... anyone who expects a government to be 100% faultless is delutional .. lol

Do you actually think people are not voting for the conservatives because they are affraid of getting annexed by the States? lol .. seriously bud .. it's all about the fact Canadians are proud of our more sociallised stance towards Medicare and education who aren't ignorant enough to believe that tax cuts is the solution to everything?!

You don't think conservatives will kill Canadian values? I doubt it will ever come to that ... but conservative/right-wing ideology is based on tax cuts and the dis-empowerment of federal institutions. It's nice to cut taxes, but most Canadians don't think cutting taxes is more important than maintaining funding to education and Medicare and environmental programs and the hundreds of other things the government runs/maintains. I'll admit the Liberals never came close to perfection on any of these issues (mostly because of the massive debt the Mulrouny conservative government left us with), but a right wing party by its very definition and ideology would minimalize such institutions as much as posible!

Note that I'm not saying they would get rid of such things ... but to me, just moving in a more right-wing direction is not what I value personally!

Again though ... it's definately a choice. Different people have different values! :)

DJ_RRebel, Once again, in my life, a man from Montreal makes a strong point I agree with.

All parties are prone to corruption. I'm more concerned about the policies they'll put into place.

The way Mulrooney ran the country and Harris ran the province were enough of a conservative dose for me!

Plus, if you live in a urban area (Toronto) a conservative government doesn't really support our needs. Looking at how much they love to fund social services an all.

I'm still keeping it left.

Also, doesn't Harper want to put some sort of giant laser on the moon? lol

lovely thread... lol

I don't know, it's strange, but I'm just being honest. My gut feeling tells me that the Conservatives winning would be a poor move on our part.

The Liberals are a disaster, I agree. But the economy is far from shattered, take a look at the dollar. And I also have a lot of respect for the major decisions made by the Liberal gov't in lieu of Mr. Bush's war on terror. (which I grasp is NOT the same current administration, yet I have a profound respect for what I thought was a noble decision)

On a strange personal note, I really can't trust Harper based solely on his physical attributes. haha I realize how incredibly trivial such a statement is, but I often find decisions in my life made on gut instincts, and human perceptions to be fairly accurate. hah I just can't trust him, AT ALL.

I'm strange I know.

Jayx ... I respect your feelings that there's some mess in Ottawa that needs to be adressed. However ... I don't see how voting for a party with values I don't believe in will make things better. No government will be perfect .. at this point, I'd rather have one that makes a few mistakes but still fights for my values. Even if the conservatives made no mistakes and had no corruption, it's their very ideology that I'm against, and for me, having a right-wing style government is the biggest mistake of all! Liberals have made mistakes and made some things go in the wrong direction by mistake ... but conservatives will work deliberately in what I see is the wrong direction (based on my values for supporting Medicare, education, the environment, etc etc).

Anyhow I'm not telling you to not vote for the conservatives ... just please be sure you understand what they stand for before you do! Because if you really can't bring yourself to vote for the Liberals because of their mistakes, yet still want to see strong funding to Medicare, education and everything else, then you'd definately be better of voting for NDP! Although I still personally believe the Liberals offer the best balance!

not strange at all.. infact i find a lotta ppl feel this way as well. i also understand that it means absolutely nothing in terms of one's ability to govern, however in the public eye it means volumes. it's part of politics, sometimes u gotta juss 'look' right for the job i guess..

Your thread titles suggest otherwise.

lol .. I know it may seem weird .. but in reality .. I'm simply trying to unite the left vote that values the socialised way Canada has been going in that puts a strong priority on education, health care, the environment and other things.

The reality is, that about 2/3rd of Canadians will be voting for left parties on Monday .. while only about 35% will vote for a right-wing conservative ideology. I simply feel that the left needs to unite in order to make sure 35% of Canadians don't dictate what the other 65% truly want.

To make things worse .. many people are voting conservative simply to remove the liberals .. I see an inherant problem with having a right-of-center majority government when only maybe 20% of Canadians want one (when you remove the people who are voting conservative simply to not vote Liberal).

I see the left vs right debate as being infinately more important than a Liberal vs Conservative debate. I'm simply very heavcily in favour of a socialized approach where Canadians help each other with strong institutions like socialised medicine (Medicare) and subsidised education and the plethora of other things prioritized by a left-of-center ideology and way of doing things.

Although I would be very disapointed by a conservative majority, it wouldn't bother me as much if 50%+1 of Canadians voted for the conservatives fully aware of what a right-wing ideology represents ... but that definately is not the case for this election!
