Someone needs to write trance with real lyrics. I'm talking poetic. None of this dream sky castle girly pansy bull. (I don't mean to offend anyone, obviously, I'm just tired of that type of lyrics!) |
DEFINITELY....anyone have examples of songs already produced with good poetic lyrics? |

Please please please please please PLEASE don't write lyrics "for trance". If you're going to write lyrically, please write them independently and then adapt as needed.
There's nothing I hate more than generic vocals with crap lyrics that were obviously created as an afterthought by the producer, who was probably thinking "well this track sounds cool but it could use a vocal!" |
Couldn't be more true. I wish more producers would write lyrics from the heart and not just because it "sounds cool." Lyrics are poetry. If you suck at poetry, don't attempt them.
If you're good at poetry, but not a native speaker of English, write the lyrics in your own language! Unless you're Conrad there's no way you can master a foreign tongue enough to write at a high level in. I have the feeling that a lot of bad trance lyrics are derived from the fact that their authors aren't native speakers.
I guess if you're desperate you can always write nonsensical lyrics- it worked for Dylan and Cobain. ;D |

| If anyone wants a good example of what trance lyrics should be, listen to just about anything by Underworld with lyrics. Those guys always seemed to have it right. |

Yep, some things can't be taught in a tutorial. I've been writing lyrics for over 20 years. I've written lyrics for rock and metal, never tried Trance lyrics, sure I could do it though. Some people can wite lyrics, others can't. If someone is a good creative writer though, they should be able to do it. Perhaps a poetry class would help?
Trance artists definately need to get off the lovey dovey cliché lyrics. The best Trance lyrics I've seen >>>>> "Masters and nickson feat Justine Suissa - Out there 5th dimension". Those lyrics make me a little sad though for some reason, but that means they are powerful. The music is great too of course.
Now the real question is, if any of us come up with some good lyrics, who's going to sing them? That would be my problem. I write very short spoken word verses that I use in my tracks, and use speech generators to voice them. That's all I can do, because I can't sing very well, and don't know anyone who can sing Trance style. |

| Most trance lyrics are about lost love or being really deeply in love and wanting to dance with someone to "the music" although we never really find out what music they're talking about or where it's coming from. |
