Both have some small issues. I'd go with the Canon myself, but Ive always had Canon cameras so Ive gotten used to them :)

Canon ->

2AA batteries. My old Canon had 4 AAs.

Those two batteries will get DEMOLISED. Especially if you use the flash. You'll need to carry at least 4 spare batteries with you. Dont use AAs, use rechargable AAs, otherwise you'll be broke from buying them all the time.

Sony ->

All Sony cameras use expensive, propriatry menu sticks. They cost a bomb and can only be used in Sony products. Canon one has SD cards, which can be used in other things.
