Odyssee of Noises - Firedance

Released in 1994 on Sven Väth's legendary Eye Q Records, Firedance instantly became one of the most memorable tunes from that time.
The 12" contained three different versions: the trancy and epic Sunrise version, the deep and edgy Nightversion and the light and laidback After Hour-version.
But it was with no doubt the Sunrise which put the track in the spotlight.
What is most important is that Firedance contains all the elements what makes a trance tune trancy. It's hypnotic, melodic and driving all at once without getting the slightest cheesy.
It also set up a pattern for future producers to refer to. This was simply trance in it's true form.

Here on TA, a while ago there was a thread asking what tune people would choose to define trance music, and Firedance was the tune most people chose, so it's no question about it's importance for the trance scene.

Some efforts have been made to remix the tune during the years. The first re-release came in 1997 with a rather uninspiring remix by DJ Errik & Delicious. Two years later came an even weaker remix by DJ Tibby (aka Pulsedriver) and the latest interpretation was released in 2000 by Resident Aliens.
All failing to gather all the elements which made the original a true trance classic.

So if there is any tune you need to let your n00b friend listen to when asking "wtf is trance mate?" it's Firedance!

Pretty nice tune. Thanks man.

Great tune, have both the original '94 release and the '97 rerelease and i think nowadays i prefer the '97 Sunrise Mix instead of the '94 version. All the outside remixes are crap tho and it hasn't been improved by anyone since.

yeah i forgot to mention the 1997 sunrise mix which was Odyssee of Noise's own take on Firedance. It's rather nice and still have the best parts from the original left but with a more modern sound and some vocal samples thrown in. I still prefer the 1994 original though.

For what it's worth, it's a pretty decent tune. Though I find it to be too melodramatic, personally.

Hildenbeutel has done much better.

Amazing tune. A couple of years ago was back at mine after a night out (seeing Above & Beyond IIRC), I put this on and everyone was like "WOW, wtf is this, never heard nothing like it"

I can't tell whether the most amazing part of this song is the way that lead evolves, or the fact that once the melody starts it never stops. The way those sounds are layered is perfect for creating that trancey mood. Firedance places one foot firmly among the earliest trance songs, but places its other foot firmly on the side of the epic and anthem trancers. As a producer, Firedance is my gold standard. It makes me feel sufficiently inadequate. :(
