Consumes the least amount of resources of any/all anti-virus software.
Fastest scan rate, lowest memory use, highest detection rate. |
Holla!
This app makes me happy to run AV. Soooooo light and suga-free!
FYI, other PC maintenance apps I run:
Sunbelt Kerio Firewall
DiamondCS ProcessGuard (kernel level safety, since some malware attacks AV and firewall process at the root level, disabling them, allowing for the ease of other attacks)
Webroot Spysweeper (runs constantly plus weekly autoscan)
MS AntiSpyware (runs weekly autoscan)
AdAware (periodic manual scans)
Spybot (periodic manual scans)
CCleaner (periodic manual scans)
HiJackThis (periodic manual scans) |

^ wow, talk about overhead. You're being far too paranoid about this . Just think a little when you're on the internet, and just a single spyware & firewall & AV will be enough. All I use is ZoneAlarm Security Suite. Firewall, spyware, and AV all in one. It's a really good firewall, so the other two things aren't even really necessary.
BTW, by think a little I mean use Firefox. |

plus the ******** extension.
"Think a little" when you read my post. "Periodic" tells you nothing.
Besides, my PC is problem-free, and I know just how to fix problems, however, I'm even better at preventing them. I have more than enough RAM to address my running apps, which isn't too many.
You do what's good for you, and I'll keep doing what's good for me. But regardless, thanks buddy, I got it covered, trust me. |

Oh you do have it covered. No denying that. You're the fella in the bulletproof vest at a paintball match.
All I'm saying is that it's overhead. Even if you don't run those proggies often, every program you install increses the registry size, especially the security apps, cause those things hook themselves into everywhere. And a huge registry does slow down your system, which of course you can can solve by throwing more RAM and CPU at it. I just prefer not to install it all.
P.S. as in the previous post, I mean 'you' in a general sense (applying to all the paranoid people out there, not just you). The spyware problem has been blown a little out of proportion because recently there's millions of new PCs on the net without any protection at all. Which is why when they say a worm affected 500,000 PCs, it seems like a tremendous number, when it really isn't even that large. |

Cosmic, I only use MSAntiSpyware and SpySweeper because MSAS wasn't out when I got my PC. MSAS is free, and since I wanted a spyware monitoring app, I was using SS. I was playing around a couple months ago, and just wanted to see if MSAS found something after running the other three, and it did, so it doesn't hurt to let it run a weekly scan. I only run AW and SB scans every 3-4 weeks.
Dan, HJT is a great app. It tells you which processes and services are running at that current moment, and you have to figure out what is what. Run a "scan with logfile output", and paste the logfile's contents here , the click the Parse button, and it pretty much does it for you. Or, someone like me will guide you. I really only check it once a month or so, but most only need to check it when they have a problem that won't go away.
I'll write more a bit later...I know this can be confusing to some. |

For anti-virus I use Symantec AntiVirus Corp Edition, it's small and fast.
I use no anti-spyware software at all.
Here is a tip, DO NOT USE IE!
I only use Firefox, and i have yet to use any form of anti-spyware software for over a year.
I installed SpyBot S&D to see if I acquired any spyware, and nothing.
No need for all that anti-spy software. Just surf smart (no using IE).
