General Observation: In every general social situations I have found that people tend to be very isolated.

A few examples to illustrate.

Commuting- Rode an express bus everyday for months. Silence between everyone for the most part.

KickBoxing Class- (not for combat but for exercise) everyone came with a friend, and at the end of the course few talked to anyone new (i.e. everyone just partnered with their friend)

University- People sit in a lecture hall and ignore one another for the most part.

The point being that humans are social creatures but the "stranger/ice" barrier is very strong.

Second Observation: Once the "ice" is broken most people tend to be quite friendly and get along well.

Solution: "Friendly" bracelets. Imagine wearing a bracelet (like those rubber anti-poverty ones) whenever you want to, that just indicates to people that "your friendly and willing to talk with strangers".

Solution 2: Upgraded "Friendly" bracelets. Same as above but colour coded (using Trivial Pursuit's colour scheme) to indicate topics that interest you. So if your bracelet is Orange then it means you like talking about sports.

Ex. Your on the bus to city Z, guy next to you has an orange bracelet and a Senators jacket. The barrier betwen chatting with him is virtually eliminated because of the bracelet.

Very good concept, except bracelets = bad idea in my opinion. Over done and over used.

Perhaps rings? Or a pin? A necklace? Anything but a bracelet.

LOL... how are you going to display them? Pull up your pant leg and hope someone notices?

*pulls pant leg up and shows off flashy purple sox* "Gee I hope that guy notices my socks."

LMAO

that is actually a very cool idea.. and I agree that we are becoming a very individualistic society.. That cant be good for the future

how about bracelets that electric shock you until you talk to the nearest person. It happens randomly & can start shocking at any time of the day. That way you'll have to meet & talk to new people everyday. Also, it knows if you have been naughty, it knows if you have been nice, it knows if you have been good or bad, so be good for s sake.

in Japan a couple of years ago there was a crazy boom/fad about barcoded temporary tattoos/readers. One would type in a message, and print an ink stamp, then transfer it on skin (shoulder or whatever) as a temporary tattoo, and, say, hit the club. then there's a reader device (much like scanners in convenience stores), where people go around and read other people's barcodes. pretty neat, huh. general observation (not just from this invention): japanese teenagers are teh craziest:D

how about a suicide bomber's backpack, that'll blow you up to pieces if you don't make 200 friends a day:D:D
