It's alright for the price. Kinda cheap feeling. I don't know about durability, as I've only used them, never owned one.

Even though it's slightly pricier, I much prefer the 501 to the 401. The 501 doesn't feel as cheaply made, and I really like the volume faders and the crossfader.

i have one of these guys...

overall i think its good for the price (i got it for $130) but yeah it does feel cheap. kill switches are awfully useful though.

7/10 or soemthing

I use the 501. Its excellent for the money I think. I paid £230ukp for mine and for that the only other mixer I couldve got was a vestax pcv or sumthing like that.. which I heard was a bit stiff on the old crossfader (ok for club. useless for scratching). The 501 and I belive the 401 too, comes with P&G crossfader. I dont think there are any other mixers in this group that comes with a P&G x-fader..

Ive had mine at least 6 months and its as good as the day I bought it. My friend has the original version before they changed the colour scheme and he has thrashed his hard daily for over a year and he still isnt looking for a new mixer as yet. It was him that actually recommended me the 501.

They only downfall I can find is the EQ/Gain dials are fairly stiff which in some ways are good but not so good when you want to instant kill a channels EQ or something and the volume fader reverse button shouldnt be near the low EQ as I have occasionally knocked it completely muting a channel! Disaster if your recording a mix and you mute a channel thats playing out! Also when switching the channel assigning for the x-fader you hear a slight mute in the track playing. It doesnt bother me since I dont switch the crossfader assign to A/B all the time but to some people this may be a problem..

I dont know why people think its a cheap feeling mixer (the 401 anyways. cant be THAT much different over the 501).... You have an aluminum plate over the x-fader and channel faders. The faders have nice chunky slider nobs (if thats what you call em), they hardly wobble and are a smooth as silk. All the dials are firm and smooth too. Id recommend the 501 to anyone who is looking for a have decent mixer to learn on. Ive no intention of upgrading for a long time..
