| Besides the fact that a lot of people link ecstasy and other drugs with raves and edm, was there ever a time where the music itself had controversy? |

Yup in the 70s with disco.
| quote: | | 12 Jul 1979 It is "Disco Demolition Night" at Chicago's Comiskey Park, where baseball tickets cost only $.98 if the purchaser brings along a disco record for the bonfire. During the second game of the doubleheader, thousands of vinyl LPs fly onto the field, generating enough chaos that the White Sox are forced to forfeit. |

| Well, there's the lawsuits over plaigarism. I suppose there was the Armin versus Mauro Picotto thing for 'Like This Like That' ripping off 'Blue Fear'. There was also a case where a Sony trance artist ripped off Rolando's 'Jaguar', subsequently setting off a legal battle between Mad Mike and Sony. And waaaay back in the early 80's when Kraftwerk sued Bambaataa/Baker/Robie for their obvious ripping off of two Kraftwerk tracks. |

I went to a mint night out once. And my mate said he didn't enjoy it as much as me. And I disagreed.

| If the kind of person that includes Hip Hop among EDM (which it is), then yeh. Whole lot of controversy. Just ask Wal-Mart. |
