Do you ever feel like your getting over it?

Alrite - ive been into dance music now - like pretty much all my life. Ive been djing around my town for a few years and have had some good times and some big moments.

But in the last few weeks or so i feel like ive lost all the drive and love i had for it. Ive invested a good 40 grand in this music and spent countless hours working on it.

I dunno i used to love going to find these new tunes that id fall in love with - now, i dunno, nothing excites me anymore. Is it over for me - or do i just gotta take a rest for a while?

The other thing is clubs. Seriously for the most part they are sleazy joints where every man and his dog takes potshots at your mrs, while u being molested by dirtys. not my idea of fun (anymore)

I get on with people well - hell ive met some of my best friends in clubs..it just seems lately in the 'scene' that there are a lot of wankers running around - and i dont think i can be f*cked with the bull anymore.

its probably a phase - this music has been a passion of mie for a long long time - but well, does anyone else ever get this feeling?

hmmz i need a break lol

Yup, that's the right answer. No more EDM for the rest of the week. Listen to something different; doesn't matter if it's new or old. Good chance to broaden your musical horizons a little! :D

If you eat chocolate constantly you will eventually become sick of it. Doesn't mean you don't like chocolate though...

Well I've never dedicated myself entirely to EDM because anything will get boring in too large doses.

Likewise. I listen to vastly different genres of music, and maybe that's the reason I still enjoy trance so much to this day. :)

i have dedicated myself to edm because i want(ed?) to make a career out of it...i do still listen to everything....i dunno maybe a total break is needed.

this is hard tho' when you have to play every week or second week, and u wanna have new tunes.

i know i know im having a winge.
sigmanova
yeah i think so. started off with the whole cheesy euro dance stuff, then moved onto trance. now im interested in either really good trance (which is more of a rarity these days) or breaks/progressive with a side of house from the likes of Hybrid, Sasha, Wrecked Angle, Digital Witchcraft, etc.

EDM will still have a place in my heart of course :D :toothless

From what I've read on many "superstar" DJ interviews they hardly ever listen to EDM on their free time.
DJFreaq
Whenever I get sick of everything... mainly EDM.

I listen to non edm music. Like previously suggested.

Sorry, I've banned you from 'getting over it' JPL cos you are the only local who plays the kind of stuff I love the most!

Your love for the music is incredible. I believe you do the ‘dj’ thing for all the right reasons, and I think the moment you play to a decent sized, appreciative crowd who know their stuff again, you won’t be feeling so jaded. Playing to a bunch of drunkards who go off to the latest house track* isn’t your style… but you really do seem to be one of the few who understands the time and place concept.

I think you just need to play at this upcoming CL gig. You might have more faith in the scene again then.

Btw, you should be doing warm up for GU arena come next month. I don’t get the selection process for locals. You’re gonna have to explain that to me at some stage please. Oh, and you've got a gf who, if she's not a model, she could be. So unless you remove both of you from all public areas involving drugs and/or alcohol, it's not the EDM scene that is the problem!

Not sure if any of the above makes sense... sorry if I'm rambling incoherently.

*Disclaimer- getting drunk and dancing to house can be fun. I accept I do this on occasion and am not knocking those who do it more often ;)

aww schucks vee thank you :)

dont worry man! its just a phase and everyone goes through changes.
im only new but i have always loved edm since there was a connection with it and i am really getting into it of late scene wise.(and im only 18):)

it funny but i dont know much about the scene to be honest in melbourne like you guys know each other and are involved, me! well i live in ballarat and there is now actual edm scene.

from my experience from a new comer in djing is that even i feel like there maybe no drive sometimes. i must admit it is a dedicated scene and can be quite demading on you but thats why we do it is for a passion in music and to meet the people to chat. if you are losing some drive well then dont over do it. it wont help. find something that will clear your mind. think i what you have achieved also, you have come this far and it doesnt do it for you. its just got to be a phase. and remember do not listen to people who give a negative feel about the scene you know people are different and sometimes you just got to forget about it.

You are not alone, it's alright to feel this way. i say you need to do some reflection give yourself some time to figure yourself out. give sometime for yourself to gather thoughts.

when i walked into the door of tilt and you were there and i thought "gee you just dont get these people anyware. they are just so happy and genuine" you seem like such a nice person, i dont think we could wipe that smile you had on your face if we tried! when you were djing you had a great vibe enjoying the music and that is what people like a dj who can show his enjoyment in the music in some way.

but i know what you mean by "The other thing is clubs. Seriously for the most part they are sleazy joints where every man and his dog takes potshots at your mrs, while u being molested by dirtys. not my idea of fun (anymore)"

that wasnt my idea of fun either!

to keep it short, take a rest and go to the movies dont tie yourself to it to much. repetition is not cool you need to find something new, people to search for inspiration else where. if it be a walk down the beach or a long rest.
remember micheal jordan a great basketball player! well he was awesome but a time came and he lost it, he wasnt enjoying it one bit then he moved onto baseball! but he wanted to come back a better basketball player and he did that!

quotes
"You can do anything with enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hope rise to the stars. Enthusiasm is the sparkle in your eyes, it is the swing in your gait, the grip of your hand, the irresistible surge of your will and your energy to execute your ideas. Enthusiasts are fighters. They have fortitude. They have staying qualities. Enthusiasm is at the bottom of all progress. With it there is accomplishment. Without it there are only alibis."
- Henry Ford

so then if you have lost enthusiasm in your tunes you just got to redirect yourself to find that enthusiasm again!

and getting back 2 it go and listen to some inspiring tunes that your really love! when i do this i feel better it helps put things into perspective alot! thats why i love music cause it puts me in a place.

in another sense you just got to re-light the fuse!

cheers :)
