I listen to loads of Global Underground stuff but always ignored this series as I presumed it was all minimal house or something.
Anyway, I took a listen to this while walking through the airport to catch a flight just before Christmas and CD1 just took me to another place. It's one of those mixes that I can completely loose myself in and that instantly makes me forget all the other EDM I've heard.
For me it's the beats that set this apart, on CD1 at least; it builds up to aggressive driving beats with tracks like Delerium - Innocente (Deep Dish Gladiator mix) and Luzon - Manilla Sunrise. , I never knew there was a Delerium track that sounded this good. I knew the Tiesto remix and vaguely recognized the vocals from that but it really is something else - vocals that range from dreamy and hazy to ear piercing, some ethereal sounds and excellent beats.
It's followed by possibly the heaviest beats I've heard in Luzon's Manilla Sunrise and then onto the insanely catchy melody and playful beats of Jark Prongo's Onix 1. I'd love to hear this track on the dancefloor, it's bloody hard not to start dancing to it, it just has that effect.
The highlight of CD2 for me is Swayzak's State Of Grace (Silicon Scally remix). It's got a sort of 80's synth pop sound with sharp scraping effects but it sounds fantastic, a really emotionally charged track with gorgeous vocals from Kirsty Hawkshaw.
I'm wondering if there's any other compilations (or tracks) that sound like this? It's the first Global Underground mix I've heard that really sounds underground and I've been unable to stop listening to it for the last 2 months. |

Try the other 5 NuBreed CDs. The only one that I don't have it Anthony Pappa's because it's a bit harder to find. |

| Oh I will, I have Nubreed 1 already and that's pretty good also, but going on the samples I've heard of the other Nu Breed releases, they don't seem quite as intense. I get such a rush from the beats on CD1, really makes me wish I had proper speakers to play it through. |

Yeah, it made me feel quite emotional the first few times I listened to it, I also listen to Swayzak's stuff and couldn't believe that it had passed me by.

Does prog like this even get released anymore? For the last year I've been checking out all the new releases and I just don't hear this kind of sound. It's why it had such an impact on me, it sounds so fresh just when I thought I was getting really used to prog mixes.
I wonder if this is why there hasn't been a Nu Breed release since 2002?
In the meantime I'll get stuck into the other Nu Breed releases, can't listen to Nu Breed 4 all the time. :) |
