A lot of memorizing pin functions, like what pins on a 40 pin parallel port do what, which are grounds, which are data, which are 3v+ or whatever, stuff like that. |
i wouldn't even imagine, what field you have to work in to actually apply this knowledge in real world:D. that's the problem with some of the cert exams: they test the "bookworm" knowledge, rather than the one which really needs to be used in real life.
people won't care whether you didn't actually finish kindergarden, but if you can come in and configure the whole enterprise to do mlps switching - that's what matters. |

they taught you wrong... if you appear double to the man sitting at the bar, you're doing a good job in raking the money in from him. a triple image is the best though:D |

i believe that for some MS stuff, you need to be able to know how to navigate around windows using the keyboard. and know exactly which keys to press for everything (alt-f, tab/alt-tab, ctrl+P that sort of thing)
In my last job this seemed ridiculous, but in my new job it's obvious why....
just in case you need to give someone phone support, when their mouse isn't working :) |

| i'm A+ certified. u'll definitely have to thoroughly different procedures other than building the comp. get one of the prep books or if you're willing to be slick, find some braindumps. questions on the actual test on them are very similar. |

a+ is archaic. as far as helping on the phone - lord help me, that's another reason for CCNA cert - almost 0% user interaction. Learn TCP/IP, subnetting ( this is sooo fun, really) and off you go.
I love the simplicity of working with routers. No bull. well, there is but it is more focused and easier to troubleshoot - you're only dealing with a limited number of variables, whereis on the desktop you have this huge wasteland of problems to focus on. |

that's when you're working with 1 router. when you have a multi-tiered interdependent environment with verious media (digital, voice, multimedia) going through the same gateways, it instantly skyrockets almost to rocket science:D |

it wasnt that hard, did my test in grade 12
passed first try without doing much else than browsing through the study guide a bit. MSCP (microsoft certified professional) is alot harder test, but imo a way more usefull credential |

| I took it this last summer and I thought I was going to be able to breeze right through it because I am pretty smart and have build computers. I was wrong. I missed passing by about 20 points on each test. My problem was I knew what things were and how to fix them but I didnt know the names and definitions by memory. |
