Sony's MDR-V700 (pg. 2)

The impression that i get, reading all the posts till date about the subject, is that the v700 is really close to the v6 (regardless of which one is better), although the price is not that close, so that's why people see the v6 as a better cost-benefit relation..
Maybe the best DJs use the v700 coz they are more confortable and they must _need_ that when it comes to hours spinning, even if the v700's sound is not as accurate as the v6. |

Um....guys, um, just so you all know, the V6's work well for, uh, anything. Shady was just using those examples cause he, like, must have thought you liked that, or something.
I dunno, he's wierd, but he knows what he speaks of, and he has a big heart.
Hypersonic, how would the V700DJ's be more suited for trance and electronic music? They are okay for Live, DJ mixing, but that's about it--and are only worth it for that if you get them for under $60. Listening to trance for enjoyment? Forget it. Mixing or creating or doing any "studio" work? Never. The V6's go way, way, lower, and, while they don't have so much bloated midbass as the V700DJ's, it *is* there, and you *can* hear and feel it--if any headphone was a high quality ear subwoofer, these are it. Also, the MDR-V6's are *really* comfy. A lot lighter than the V700DJ's, they fit more people's (rather than just some people's, as with the V700's) heads awesome, and you can mod them to have soooooo freaking comfy, "around the ear" earpads...
After this mod, especially, they slaughter the V700DJ's in comfort...
Actually, Exxtreme, soundwise, they are eons apart... They sound nothing alike. The V700DJ lacks deep bass and high treble (ie, they have sucky ACTUAL [not as-written/lied about by sony] frequency response, whereas the V6's go all the way down, and all the way up. Where the V700DJ's have boomy midbass, the v6's have accurate one...and when compared to the accurate, but still very present, up front, and physically impacting midbass of the v6's, the V700DJ's have no lead as far as beat matching go; far from, the V700DJ's artificial boom actually spreads the bass out over time, so you hear bass when it isn't there on the recording, something the V6 does NOT do. Also, where the MDR-V700DJ has depressed, mostly nonexistant midrange (ie, where music mostly is) and highs that roll off very quickly, the V6 has accurate, detailed mids and slightly bright (but only very slightly bright--not harsh but "detailed" highs) that go all the way up, allowing you to hear all the details of what you are listening to. Plus, the MDR-V6's, of course, go way, way, way, WAY lower than the MDR-V700DJ's...
The Koss KSC-35 tromps the MDR-V700DJ's IN SOUND QUALITY as well, with sparkly treble, great mids, and a warm, very deep, bass, which make music sound a lot better compared to the MDR-V700DJ's uber-boom, no deep bass, and rolled off highs. However, the Koss KSC-35's are not DJ headphones...they just sound better than the MDR-V700DJ's at $30... You *really* have to track these down and give them a listen!!
Also, if you want to LISTEN TO TRANCE with headphones that you dont want to use for mixing, you have sooooo many more options for the price of the MDR-V700DJ's! Not just the V6 ($62), which sound better, but also the Denon AHD-950 ($130, the Grado SR-80 (HELL YEA! $80!), the Grado SR-125 (even better!), and, if you have some money, you can get some of the BEST listening-to-trance-but-not-for-dj's headphones out there, like the (closed, big, hard to drive, $180) Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro's (these suckers ROCK!, or the (grado's are all open, medium sized, easy to drive), or the Grado SR-225 ($195), or the Grado SR-325 ($295), or the Sony MDR-CD3000 ($380)...
By the way, if you do not believe me about the Sony MDR-V6, the Koss KSC-35's, the Beyerdynamic DT250-80, the Sennheiser HD25's, or any of the other *non-sucky* headphones I mentioned, just search for the relevant product number at www.headwize.com or www.head-fi.org, or if you want to see stuff ripping the V700DJ's apart, you can also check that out too. |

I did listen to some trance music (I don't remember the title or DJ) on the MDR-V700DJ's... The V700DJ's sound like poop, too, on that particular track!! The "bass" doesn't stop when it's supposed to, but instead keeps on going for quite a bit longer! (None of my other headphones have that problem to such an extent.)
And for music listening, even some of Sony's smaller, cheaper headphones whoop the V700DJ's. (For example, the cheapo $25 A44L VITE's sound decent for their tiny size and low price - but you need an amp for those VITE's, or else they may sound shrill or murky.) |

| gluegun you'll be surprised to know that the v6's have practically no bass when comparing to the v-700s on a pioneer djm-600. i told you before that i could never directly compare the two, but i got the chance on new year's eve... once i realized what was wrong, i ditched the v6's for my friend's v-700s... there's just not enough bass happening on that mixer with those headphones. |

Patticus.
Please explain why you choose...
Boomy, exaggerated midbass, and little low bass
to
Slightly exaggerated, "up front", clear, tight midbass, and deep bass. |

Hmm... I _really_ wouldn't go that far if i wanted some credibility... First of all, it does not sound like poop; secondly, i don't believe they'd sell a BMW for the price of a ordinary FIAT.
Again, i feel awesome with my V700 headphones (they're the best i've tried till date - although i never bothered seeing the brands of the ones i tried) and there's no argument that'd make me feel otherwise, thanks. |

Hey, here's a good, cheap way to figure out moderately decent sound.
Go to Best Buy, or any store that sells cheapy headphones,
and pick up the Koss KSC-50's for $20, and listen to them.
They are pretty good, fairly well rounded, cheap... the lesser progeny of the KSC-35's. |

Actually, it's the other way around - the V700DJ's are like buying a cheap Volkswagen for the price of the most expensive BMW. |

| Oh, BTW, in Japan, the V700's should be closer to the price of a cheap VW. It's because of exchange rates and such; I ranted about it in an earlier post. |

well basically after hearing the v700s on that mixer, i couldn't mix with the v6s because there was simply way too much treble. NO bass.
it made it sound weird
if i didnt try out the v700s then i probably would have been fine, but my friend was complaining about my headphones |

Actually it IS NOT the other way round...
_Again_: i don't believe they'd sell a BMW (you sound as if the A44L VITE are like the top of the line, the BMW, when it must not be) for the price of a ordinary FIAT (that is, an ordinary headphone, $25).
That means: the A44L VITE is not the BMW that you're saying, otherwise they wouldn't be that cheap. Got it now? |
