| Well i maybe wrong, but i think it just a pre release of a track, so like in a film you get a premiere, and showings before it is officially release. A track will be released on promo before it is offically released |

| I always tought that a promo vinyl is one that gets send out to various djs for free to promote the record by playing it at their gigs, but I might be wrong...:clown: |

| promos are just a release before an official release, usually with less mixes. they do get sent out to djs and other people on the promo list, but a lot of times, stores get them (unless they are super exclusive) like acetate(i think meaning only pressed a couple copies for the dj only) like yahel - sugar 1 or something, which only armin and yahel have i think. the stores sell them as well, chceck hooj promo service, they sell a lot of them. yea so basically just to promote the track before it is officially released to the public. |

| Yep, but the promos usually have *more* mixes as the lable will then review the feedback from the DJs to decide which mixes appear on the commercial release. |

| I'd say half and half. sometimes you find a promo with more mixes which is great, but then sometimes you find a song that becomes heard as a promo and gets remixed by some people and that turns up on the released. |

yea forgot about that some have more mixes, but some get cut
i have a lost tribe - gamemaster promo, which comes with the lost tribe 99 remix and under the red sea, which was never put out officially on hooj choons, although i think it was out on orbit records if i am correct, and some promos never see the release date, take for example the new solar stone remixes, i think hooj was just being nice and putting it on the promo service, otherwise it would be hard as hell to find |

I have Space Brothers - Shine PROMO....and it says:
"Not for resale"....i bought it in a shop :p
That means a DJ must have sold it there right? |

Yeah, more than likely. It's a good way for a DJ to make cash offloading the freebie tunes he/she doesn't like.
'Promo' printed on the sleeve isn't always correct, the simple way to check is the lack of a barcode.
I've got the Space Brothers Mix of Ayla on Additive and it looks identical to a commercial release except it has no barcode. |
