Some Ableton Questions

I heard on another post that by getting Ableton5 it would cut out the need to buy hardware such as Rane's Serato Scratch. I was planning to get both, but if someone could explain to me how Ableton does the same job Serato does it would save me a lot of money.
Thanks - Zejay

It doesn't. Yes you can create polished sets on both, but they're very different animals. Serato is a vinyl control solution where Ableton is a production solution.

Not just production, you can also DJ with Live5.

They're different. Personally I would get Live 5, because you can do a whole lot more with it. Remember that its hella more tedious though

i understand that you can dj w/ ableton live 5 (with a midi/mouse) and you can also put your vinyl tracks on your computer w/ it, but i dont understand how you could spin ableton remixes/productions on wax w/ out serato... please fill me in because i was just about to buy serato and then ableton5 in like 6 months... this was my plan:

- use ableton to create/remix tracks (at home)
- spin my created/remixed tracks on wax using serato (live)
- use the midi and ableton to do some improv jamming w/ whatever track i'm spinning (live)

if there is a better way please let me/us know...

ps. great question ZeJay (i was afraid to ask bcuz i feel like i am already asking too many questions...)

what are you asking, if you can perform using serato & ableton at the same time? that's possible with 2 sound cards, or 1 sound card w/ like 4+ outs... although i don't recommend trying to do that

Yes, you can easily do that with Live, however u cannot do it with Sera...

No need, you can do it with Live
- use the midi and ableton to do some improv jamming w/ whatever track i'm spinning (live)
What kinda what I do

I'd recommend you (AGAIN) to get Live5!!!...
just do whatever the f*** you want

If you have any question on how to use Live let me know... MSN- [email protected]

Your the guy i found on the ableton forums lol.
Basicaly when it comes to mixing the differences between live and common dj mixing apps is that with live your not exactly mixing live.
Mixing between ableton and decks or cdjs has proven to be a challenge for me. Although i believe i may be slightly retarted.

I've now started doing this and, you're right, it is quite difficult! But is doable.

Its just a pain not having a good easy way to pitch bend.
Once i get a midi controller i can just use it to ride the pitch like when using turntables. Much better then

Exactly :D

I think I'm going to have to get myself a midi controller soon to do exactly that was having a look at them earlier... although tbh all I need is just a box with a fader on it lol
